Player Respect, where did it go?

I know this is gonna be a rant, mods do with this as you wish.

What happened with the respect in this game? I joined up in beta moving into release. Everyone was so respectful and helpful, we would help each other with rotations, battle strategies. Even give some friendly tips to jobs we arent currently doing.

I was trying to do that in a recent dungeon helping a tank when i get acid spit in my face by a black mage (remaining nameless but if you read this you know who you are).

He starts off commenting that the tank is pulling too much and being a smartass to him about it. He returns with if i dont pull too much ill get booted. I said dont pull beyond what you are comfortable with. Pull what you want, we will kill what you hold

Thats when the black mage starts targeting me saying im doing nothing. Im playing a ninja at the time where pretty much everyone knows that ninjas are best attacking one thing at a time. I do aoe sometimes but thats besides the point. Hes the aoe specialist im the single target specialist.

Eventually i stopped caring and stopped dpsing, just let the dungeon finish itself while he continuously spit acid at me. I knew at that point he wasnt gonna stop so I just didnt bother anymore. He goes off that i gave up and he won. Yay you won the argument. We all lost the fun in the dungeon though thanks to you.

Anyway feel free to comment on whatever. I just needed to vent and ask that question. Where has the player respect gone and why is it a crime trying to help people?

Respectfully, people should check their ability potency before deciding that they shouldn't AOE. Too many DPS fall into this trap.

I prefer Doton as my aoe, but I'll use Katon if tank needs to constantly move the mobs around due to mob aoes. Otherwise, it's Kassatsu + Doton for me.

One bad person in a dungeon means everyone is bad. Makes sense.

These people have been there since the beginning; either you didn't notice them (or were one yourself), tuned them out, or got *extremely* lucky and never dealt with any.

This game has always had a rough community compared to other games as long as I've played it.

So player respect was never there to begin with for me. Might be because of DF behavior especially.

There being no player driven server reputation in DF probably brings the trolls out more.

There are certainly rude and bad players in the game but that doesn't mean everyone is. This is an MMO, experiences like that happen all of the time. Just ignore them and continue enjoying the game.

Not to play devil's advocate, but if he was being such a jerk, why didn't you guys just vote dismiss him? Anyway, sorry you had such an awful run. I don't think his mentality in anyway represents a majority of the players, though.
