Rip the dream.
They said EGI glamour. Scholar uses fairies. So, no, the glamour is only for summoners. Carbuncles were/are tied to arcanists, which is considered a DPS class. It makes sense carbuncles can't heal and why the glamour hasn't been extended to scholars.
Another drawback from jobs stemming from classes.
They never said a when, though. Only they'd look into it. Now we know it's coming patch 3.5, which is scheduled for mid- January.
It makes more sense that summoners get it from a lore standpoint because Carbuncles themselves are offensive/defensive. I'm gonna guess the quest to unlock this will have something to do with the research the Arcanist Guild Master and what's her name with the pink hair were mentioned being up to after you finish the Arcanist quests.
I'm really looking forward to the update now. I love the Scholar faeries but the egis aren't much to look at. Garuda in particular is a bit of an eyesore and losing her contagion for a negligible DPS increase by changing to Ifrit hurts my MP and makes him hard to use in long fights.
By this logic, Scholar is the only job to not have a class Pre-HW. Scholars are Arcanists just as equally as SMN. If you are a scholar, at some point you learned to summon with carbuncles. You have access to all the basic arcanums. Carbuncles are just Aether Frankensteins and the fact that you could now sew the essence of primals into them stands to reason, even more easily, that you could sew the umbral and astral elements of Lilly into them as well. This is just a request, since the framework of development of Egis to carbuncles has been done, so too could Fairies to carbuncles. They said EGI glamour. Scholar uses fairies. That depends entirely on the gemstone, really.
Yet even when Alphinaud uses his own unique Carbuncle with a different gemstone it's still offensive. The guide mentions they'd have different qualities but it doesn't mention that those qualities would include healing.http://67.media.tumblr.com/a3e6bdb95...4q8o1_1280.jpg

Well, of course, he wanted an offensive carbuncle. Why would he summon anything else? The guide doesn't mention what qualities a carbuncle can have, nor what qualities a carbuncle can not have, hence SE is free to just pick a random untaken gemstone and say:"Yep, those can heal."
There's no barrier to it and no real reason to bar Scholars from the feature for the heck of it.

The real reason to bar Scholars from it is because it'd be confusing for people if they got Carbuncles when only DPS classes used them previously. I'm not against the faeries getting an upgrade of their own(really stinks that the SCH equivalent of dreadwyrm trance is making your faerie leave) but using Carbuncle which has only ever been shown to be offensive or as a mini tank in FF XIV isn't the path they're going to take and they've now stated as much.
