    FFXIV, Stops working only in ONE zone

    Hi,

    I'm hoping someone can help me resolve this issue as I've been facing it for the last month. My game runs perfectly fine in all zones and dungeons except when entering "The Black Shroud". If I try to teleport there, my game crashes with a "FFXIV has stopped working message" within 1 minute of entering the zone. "The Fallgourd Float" seems to be the worst one as I have teleported to other Aethers and survived without a crash.

    I played the game by avoiding the zone entirely; however due to quests and dungeons I need to unlock, I have to re-enter the zone.

    Firstly, I'm on an Alienware 17, Windows 10

    Attempted Solutions:

    (1) Initially I was on Windows 8 when this started happening. I wiped my computer and reinstalled windows, then upgraded to 10. Didn't help.

    (2) I tried Direct X 9 and 11, both same issue.

    (3) Lowered graphics settings and Cache LoD, no go.

    (4) Re-installed FFXIV 3 times.

    (5) Reported Bug and contacted Support, all they've been asking for is DXdiag and MSinfo files and offering me the same solutions (Delete FFXIV Document folder, re-install, run as administrator.. all don't work).

    (6) I tried deleting the patch folders under /download, no use.

    (7) Deleted Graphics drivers and reinstalled to latest version. No change.


    So, you can imagine and getting quite frustrated with this and would truly appreciate someone more experienced's help or if someone has gone through this. I'm thinking there is something with the files for The Black Shroud causing this.

    THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED:

    The only way I could play again on my character was to log on to another character, open a GM ticket and ask them to warp my main character back to home point. That's the only way I can log back in and then all I can do is avoid teleporting to the Black Shroud... But thats a temporary fix I cant do anymore as the game's quests are heavily linked to that zone...

    If you have any ideas, fixes, advice... Im all ears! ; ;

    It sounds like you crossed your t's and dotted your i's. I can't think of a single thing to do except maybe assume it's a hard drive problem? Are you on a solid state hard drive? I personally put all my games on my HDD and all other files go into my solid state. That is really the only thing I can think of, but then again, you'd think if that was the problem it wouldn't happen in 1 zone.

    That's a tricky one TBH. I know that place is heavily wooded and populated.. Only other thing I could think of is a processor problem. But again if anything related to hardware you would figure it would happen other places.. But you mention Fallgourd is the worst, well that's where there are about 100 different mobs plus fates and a ton of players and npc's in that tiny little area, that may be the cause. My guess is 1 of 3 things, Hard Drive, Processor, or video card. Something is causing them to work too fast, computer can't handle it and shuts it down.. And that whole zone is really busy with just NPC's.

    Maybe there is something corrupted with the files related to that area? but than again you reinstalled it.. I hope you find the solution!

    Thank you for your reply and time Dubah! Yea, I've milked the web in search for solutions to this and I've tried both HDD and SDD. To be honest, the only thing I havent tried is logging on from another computer which I dont have. I'm considering taking my laptop in for a complete wipe and reinstallation with a new Windows and see if that resolves this. It's weird as my graphics card and processor are both highest end specs. Worst is that I think SE Tech Support has given up haha! I'll keep trying and post if I find a solution but for now I'm dodging the Black Shroud lol...

    That's my guess as well but I don't see many posts online against this zone. I've seen a few on Idyllshire with the same problem but that person hasn't found a solution either. Thank you!

    I am going through this as well. My problem area is O'ghomoro mines ONLY during Kobold beast tribe quests. I've gone there to fight Cornu various times and Mahisha without a crash. As soon as I go there with Kobold beast tribe quests, it crashes my PC. Sometimes, I have to reboot the pc.

    windows 8,specially 10 are know to have some problems(i work in a computer shop,seen laptop crash out of the box),you should try to install windows 7 x64 an give it a go,i know is an older OS but is much more stable than the new OSs

    This, I still use windows 7, old OS or not, it's stable, and secure, and runs everything without any issues. They keep offering me a free update to windows 10... Um, no thank you. Before windows 7 I ran windows 98 for the same reason. They make these new OS and sell them with more bugs than they can fix. They really aren't worth it, stick with an older windows that everyone knows runs like a champ.

    Ive been reading up on windows 10- And it doesnt seem that bad at all- will need to try it to really form an opinion.
