because you have to deal with peoples mistakes a lot more as a healer than a tank. I think people underestimate how much the healer does for the party. If you have a bad tank (unless they pull more than their limits) healers can carry them. Dps constantly keeps ripping aggro? Just a tank problem mostly right? No because healer now has to heal dps who got cleaved along side of everyone else if boss aoes. Hell even sometimes dps can just tank it if healer is on it. Mechanics not done? Healer has to clean up the mess. Yes tank have problems too, but not quite on the same lvl as heals. Most of the problems that happen tanks really can't help out aside from aggro, dpsing, and maybe support (paladin). It falls on the healer.

Especially if you are trying to dps on top of it, rather than just afk netflix heal.

I like how you made it sound like it almost has to be the fault of the tank as the precedence. You can have the best tank in the world who knows his job inside out but if you have a dps in the dungeon (especially lower level dungeons) who doesn't understand enmity at all and has no clue how to control their threat generation...that good tank can be made to look bad in a DF. All it takes is two more band wagon retards to agree with a "ffs where I come from tanks tank. You cant hold aggro you're a shit tank so just quit" comment. That good tank could defend themselves and most likely would get vote kicked in that instance of 3 retard bandwagoners

Tanks set the mood for dungeons, if I move quick and get aggro and swap to dps, I watch the healer and see what he does, if he can keep up I'll continue moving faster but if he can't I'll take my time. I don't call people out for being bad unless you are truly bad to the core, and even then I won't cause I don't care about how the dps perform in a dungeon group, if you are in my static I'm calling you out. If I'm on my monk I try and give advice to tanks to perform better cause it's my main class, but some are idiots so a lot of the time I just do me and force the tank to move faster or perform better

The problem is, if dps keep pulling for you, and it doesn't go so splendidly, it's the tank who is blamed. More so if the tank let it slide earlier, because then the rest of the group assumes it's fine in every case, even if it's not. Now if you're a tank and have a dps buddy with whom you are used to do that, then roll for it while with them. But I'll keep my stand of "if you pull it, you tank it" when I'm with randoms and frankly, I feel it's lessrude than what the dps players who pull are doing. If they wanted the talk pull more they have a fine little chat line for that purpose. Instead of forcing their own view to the rest of the group mid fight.

I can agree with that, but I'd rather just kick the person who's being rude in the first place (which would be the DPS pulling for me). As I said, i will take the first time, but after I directly ask, if you decide to disregard my request, then either you're going to get a vote kick, or I'm going to get a vote kick. Luckily for me, this isn't much of an issue usually, but I recall my party having to boot a monk in Solm Al once. Literally, the dungeon started, and before I could type hello, they pulled the first mob for me. I took and asked them to stop. Then they pulled the next mob, I asked one more time as we sat there infront of the boss fight. They pulled the boss for me. Luckily, the rest of the party was on my side and we simply vote kicked.

A toxic player will overall slow the dungeon pace to begin with. I'd rather take the wipe so we can initiate the vote kick. I don't mind a DPS making a mistake. They can even do it once on purpose, but after I ask them to stop, I expect their respect to do what I asked. It's as simple as that, it's about respecting one another. I don't feel like becoming that flying head in tam tara HM.

Didn't realize my reply would cause more debate on the patient tank stance.

@Kitfox, I agree, what I said was rather hostile. That said, the context of the run was out of scope for my post. There were words and hasty attitudes within the group that pushed me to be more frank than I am use too. The Whm and Blm were queued together and they obviously knew each others play style. They even went as far as to mouth off the Nin that joined us since they were hoping for a Brd to join.

I should have said something at the start but I just wanted to go through the dungeon as I normally do and pull at the pace I am familiar with. I know I can hold more mobs, but the Whm was already threading my HP while also DPSing so I didn't want to push my luck. The way I see it, if we don't pull large groups, then the healer can join in on DPS to move things along faster. He was already doing this, and at the expense of me nearly dying several times.

My biggest problem with all this was the last thing they did at the end of the dungeon. Knowing I was already hostile with them, they let me enter into the last fight and backed out without their support. It was an obvious wipe and they knew if I died, they could get a clean kick with a 2/2 vote kick. This just infuriates me to no end. I was livid. I reported them, knowing it's not going to get anywhere, for my own peace of mind.

I'm in DF just like everyone else. The way I see it, if it's DF, be prepared to be patient. If it's a premade, do what you do with the people you do it with.

I honestly never thought of telling someone to stop pulling mobs as more of a pride thing IMO, if I don't believe I can pull what you think I can pull, I probably can't pull it. I can't say I'd kick someone just for continually pulling mobs, though. I would instead, click off Shield Oath and replace it with Sword Oath and dps and then there'll just be a party with two dps and one low-tier dps with a large amount of vitality, and a confused healer who's probably trying to figure out why the dps think they're the tanks. I actually can't say I've had this happen to me more than once.

I can only recall one instance where I was running Copperbell (sic?) NM and the healer (out of all people) began to pull mobs. I'm sure it wasn't because they were making sure I didn't miss patrolling enemies...I was 100% positive that I was going to get them as soon as they came into range. I wasn't mad, though. I'm not going to say "hey, can you stop pulling mobs." Why? It's obvious that the mentality of a majority of the Final Fantasy 14's community is that everyone sports this game 24/7 and that you should be the best player in the world or at least good enough so that you don't hamper anyone else's playstyle. That's when people in dungeons get mad at when you aren't following the pace set by the Tank. Tank going to slow? "They're making this dungeon take longer than it needs to" *proceeds to pull as a squishy BLM*. Tank not doing what I believe they should be doing? Goes into Sensei mode and tries to lecture the tank (and ends up being wrong 90% of the time).

What I'm saying as that, I created this post in the shiny veil of unappreciated tanks who are very patient, endearing, and tolerant of the kind of scenarios given here today in this thread by this forum's patrons. Hopefully anyone who's either transitioning into a tank, having tanking be your first class, or just have been putting off for one reason or another will see this thread and take heed of the important topics discussed and/or continued discussions.

I do this a lot, and I won't apologize for causing stress on the healer. If the dps pull, I'll voke it. If they pull again, I'll kindly ask them to stop. If they do it a third time, then I'll let that particular person tank.

In one incident, a NIN pulled a group after he told me to stfu. When the other two mobs went for the healer, I protected the healer. The NIN was still fighting the mob. I let him keep it while I ran off to grab the next group. Sadly, the healer gets caught up in our antics, but oh well.

only time I have had ppl other than me pull mobs as tank (which is PLD, lv'd DRK for the story only) was my healers which like hell I'm gona let them die for being an asshat & pulling more than I did, cause then I die by lack of heals, so I just took them & turtled faster than I normally would have (more/use def CD's cause a 3 mob pull u'd usually not need 1) I lived so after it happened a few times with different healers I have come to assume if the healer pulls more then they think you (& them) can handle it.... I do not take a mob from a DPS who does that thou untill its about to attack the healer mostly outa spite toward impaciant DPS (which are about 80% of the ppl who do that as DPS, some are accidental)

I think I have only "snaped" on 2 ppl as tank, 1 was a BLM telling my friend how to heal as SCH (which hes my go to choice as healer... till he gets board -_-!) other I can't fuly remember but I do know the rest of the team went after them for me. I just usually stop the fighting by saying about save it for after the dungeons done which usually works for 1 silent rest of dungeon (or the arngy/hostle person leaves outa rage-quit which technically solves it anyway)
