    I can understand this statement from folks that don't know just how awesome addons can be and how much the right ones can improve your experience with a game. I will give you a few examples of addons and why they want them:

    1. DPS meters- these are very useful for raid groups to see if they have the dps to beat a certain encounter. While yes, there are players that think meters are the end all be all, good players know that a dps meter's results should be interpreted based on the fight and having an accurate readout of where you stand can really motivate someone to get better.

    2. Chat addons- I don't know how bad the RMT situation is on your server, but on my server you will get dozens of tells every minute from RMT. WoW for example has a few addons that add extra filters to your chat and automatically block whispers based on words you set, the level of the person, and any other number of parameters you indicate. It blocks these whispers without even telling you and really improves the experience for a game that has a lot of spammers, like this one for example.

    3. Combat addons- The UI editor this game has right now isn't horrible, but there are those who really like to go crazy and mod their UI in some crazy ways to make life easier or just for fun. I'll give you an example of a UI addon that WoW has, it's called Healbot, it adds a special raid frame that shows your party and allows you to just click that person's name to cast a spell on them without needing to actually target them. So if multiple people are taking damage, you can click their name and cast the spell rather than needing to target them THEN cast a spell. It's a small difference but it's really noticeable in practice, you can target the boss and heal without ever targeting anything else but the boss.

    4. Gathering addons- This is another thing that could be done with this game that also has similar style of addons in other games, basically what it would do is show you the spawn time (in minutes/seconds) of when something was going to spawn. Imagine having that instead of having to look at the clock as a gatherer. Instead of saying "oh it's 1am eorzea time that node spawns at 5am" the addon would say "5am unspoiled node spawns X minutes Y seconds).

    The whole point of addons is to improve quality of life and help get rid of those little nitpicks people have about the game or it's UI or just for fun. A friend of mine for example, downloaded an addon that played comic book style sound boxes and made cartoon sound effects whenever he got a critical hit or used a cooldown. He showed me it and it was one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. Addons are a fantastic thing that can really improve your gaming experience.

    Edit:

    I had an addon that let me play Bejeweled while in another MMO. It was a fantastic way to pass the time while waiting on a dps queue, it also popped up automatically if you died to give you something to do while waiting for a rez or a respawn timer to finish, you could of course toggle it off at any time.

    DPS queues can get pretty long.

    SE isn't putting add-ons to the playstation store, it will be up to users. I'm also sure that you'll need a developers license to even publish to the playstation store. Anything SE makes they can just patch into the game, so there's no need for them to make add-ons.

    The SE devs can do a top10 chart of the most favourite PC add-ons and can do a version for PS3 and PS4 (inclusive making sure it works wih other add-on) and add them to the PSN store (for free), where the PS players can choose which add-on they want to install

    Which in turn would take quite a while to determine "most favourite PC add-on", and then dev time to convert it to PS version. Meaning those PS players would have to wait for a couple of months (most likely) before they could get the same benefits the PC players had been enjoying. Which is something SE apparently doesn't want to do.

    So in order to make things "fair" for PS users, they would have to find either a way to let people upload their add-ons to PS store, or to let FFXIV players download PS addons through some other means (and transferring it to the PS device through a USB stick or something -- I haven't had a PS4 for long, so I have no idea what you can do and not).

    In the first case, Sony would be responsible for any errors, unless you "signed" a waiver by downloading said addons to not hold Sony responsible for any damage to your console or game by using them. Even if they added that "waiver", they'd still have the moral obligation to ensure that add-ons were labelled correctly and that none of them were against their ToS or contained illegal implementations (pulling things from the air, but for example having a UI skin with naked lalafells in -- which in the eye of the law could be seen as child porn). In the second, Sony wouldn't really have to face that dilemma, but SE would have to figure out how to make that possible, and Sony would have to agree to such a workaround, which also would open up possibilities for other games to do the same (unless they already do).

    I'd like to state, however, that despite listing all these problems, I'd love for add-ons to become possible. If only for the aesthetic portions of it, which are the ones I'd be most likely to try out and/or use.

    This. The only thing I can think of remotely close to tracking others is loot distribution addons (yes, those exist) to keep track of DKP or loot priorities or Suicide Kings or whatever system your raiding guild uses. Even then, that's data not generated by the addon, but by the raid leaders. The addon is just a tool in the process.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

    Better later than never, especially if it is just for aesthetics and bring no advantages except maybe a cleaner UI.
