People are fooling themselves if they honestly believe that the inclusion of stuff like DPS meters won't end badly. The community as a whole is already obsessed with doing things in as 'efficient' a manner as possible, thus why many people freak out in a dungeon if they're stuck with new players who can't push for a speed run. Yes, they'd 'technically' be optional - but MMO's such as WoW show that many people push for addons to be mandatory rather than optional.
