what's wrong with flying with mounts????? There is no reason for me to fly without a mount; unless we're going for that Crazy Crystal Power again...and nothing good seems to come of that so no thanks.

But why can't we fly and fight in places that allow flying, if we're able to fly without any assistance? There's some things I'm willing to suspend my beliefs on, but not being able to fly and combat when we're capable of flying without a mount is really pushing it, as if the tortoise wasn't enough (which is also just as obnoxious with the sound effects and smoke fumes)

Because the game isn't designed around it, nor can some jobs even execute actions properly while mounted.
