PLD tips and tricks for Midas Savage!

    Hello all,

Is there a post here or reddit that shows you little tips and tricks you can use as PLD in Midas Savage?

If not please help me with my issue below.

I just joined a static and we downed A5S last night.
I want to try and improve my dps and the problem I faced was using FoF.

The fight starts, the goblin goes big, I drag him into the corner, he goes small so I pop FoF/pots.
However, the next time FoF comes back up he is big so I am not sure should I pop FoF or wait for him to go small again. I tryed waiting for him to go small before i use every FoF during one of the trys but it seem i am leaving FoF ready for too long.

Any small tips that helps me do more dmg or have better cooldown rotation for A5S/A6S are appreciated

The best way to learn how to play your class better is right here:http://www.fflogs.com/

You can check out the best Paladins in the world (who upload) on Ratfinx http://www.fflogs.com/rankings/10#bo...l&spec=Paladin

And then Compare it directly to your OWN parse (if you uploaded it, which you should, even if it's private/unlisted). You can see when and where they use their cooldowns (offensive AND defensive) as well as when they're in Shield or Sword. Ideally you'll find another PLD who's in the same role as you (MT or OT).

For example, here's a really good MT PLD - http://www.fflogs.com/reports/vNy6Tb...pe=damage-done

It looks like he never changes stance, so I assume he was 100% Sword Oath, which may not work for your group. Heals need to be on it, and you need to know what cooldowns to use when. He opens with FoF and it wears off during Concussion, for instance, and then uses it on cooldown from there.

A VERY important thing to note about cooldown usage in this fight - getting 3 casts of a cooldown at the reduced effectiveness is strictly better than getting only 2 casts at the boosted effectiveness. If you end up holding FoF for 30s more than once, you're losing 1 cast of it for the duration of the fight, almost undoubtedly, which is a pretty significant loss.

Be careful when using fflogs some people get fed. And got a dedicated parse run aimed at padding them numbers

It's really tough to pad PLD's overall DPS, unless if you get 3 tanks or let the other tank MT all the stuff (uncommon, can happen) but that's generally easily seen from each logs.

I was really careful. I resent the implication that I wasn't.
Please actually look at the fflogs links before crying about the sky falling because I'm looking at a potentially flawed source.

That one I linked is just a PLD in a good group comp (slashing debuff, NIN/MCH buffing him) that is minorly catered to his dps, since it allows him to (almost undoubtedly) run the entire fight in Sword Oath.

That's called a good Paladin, and one that should be modeled after if trying to bolster your DPS on that fight.

You can look at his cooldown rotation and see that he uses things pretty much on cooldown to keep mitigation flowing while remaining in Sword Oath to dish out maximum damage.

I didn't pick out the #1 parse - http://www.fflogs.com/reports/cX9LKh...pe=damage-done - because this group uses a peculiar tank swapping strategy, undoubtedly aimed toward maximizing tank dps, since their tanks are two of the best in the world.

Nor did I take the #2 parse - http://www.fflogs.com/reports/GLNBfd...pe=damage-done - because this PLD is the OT in the fight - a scenario that can't be assumed to be the case when playing PLD in endgame content.

The next one, Ykoj, had no notable cheese to his dps and was the acting main tank for the entire fight, start to finish. He even took all three concussions. That, in my opinion, quantifies a good parse that should be modeled after if trying to maximize your PLD dps. I wouldn't necessarily suggest running Sword Oath in 100% of the fight until the group is comfortable enough, but looking at what he does in that fight will help you improve your personal dps, even if you're stuck in Shield Oath.

The best way to utilize the resource, though, @OP, is to use the Search Fights... function and narrow it down to your particular group composition and see what Paladins with that group comp are doing. If your dps core is DRG/MNK/BRD/BLM and you have a DRK OT, for example, you'll never be able to come close to Ykoj's parse, but you could instead look at this guy:
    http://www.fflogs.com/reports/dCHWzM...pe=damage-done

And try and see if that lines up with what you do. The PLD is MT there, too.

Yeah, without a NIN that's not happening at all lol. Paladin hate gen outside of tank stance is pretty awful.

@OP - I noticed the same thing, my FoF's seem to overlap when he turns big a lot of the time. I've been poking at finding a way around it, but it seems like I have to hold onto FoF way too long in order to do it, which is a waste in and of itself.
