    Horrible experience with GM

Ever since I have started playing FF14 I have heard horror stories about customer service through the GM's. Recently I made a mistake buying the wrong thing through the Red crafter Scrip vendor. Everyone told me not to bother trying to ask for help and they were right. It seems that for some reason there are so many restrictions on how purchase mistakes are forgiven that it may as well not even be existent. First the GM's told me (through automated response) that I would be able to get items from the same vendor for the same amount of currency that i spent. Then after almost a week later they sent me a letter saying oh sorry all of a sudden we can’t do the exchange. Absolutely infuriating.

I had already started spending my currency based on the fact they said they would be able to do the exchange. I have no idea why SE makes it so insanely hard to get help. Any other MMORPG has an understanding that for some reason SE lacks and it makes it seem like they could care less about problems as long as the sub remains active. I came from World of Warcraft in search of a better playing experience, and I have to say that they cared a lot more about their players. They actually respond in person to the problem and resolve the issue without hiding behind a bunch of rules that seems like a recipe for non-action. Considering that SE will only do an exchange one time (which is pretty sad) you would think they would do what it takes that one time. Yeah my suggestion is that SE gets a much better customer service experience. You have the subs to be able to afford this service that should be baseline but is sadly non-existent.

SE has never been one to molly-coddle their playerbase when misclick mistakes like that happen. It was one of the defining factors of FFXI Vs WoW back in the day.

Make a mistake in WoW: Complain to the GMs and get it fixed.
Make a mistake in FFXI(V): Learn from it and never do it again.

Wait, I can complain to a GM about eso I accidentally spent on AST boots instead of SCH boots??? Why didn't I know about this before? I can just get an eso refund like it never happened? I assumed it was my own fault for not properly reading the item description before I confirmed the purchase!

If you buy the wrong item you are pretty much screwed. There are no real refunds. There only appears to be a one time item restore function for something you accidentally dropped.

Myself I only have good experiences with customer support, having had issues with a software and a hardware token. Both of which were promptly resolved using chat support on the website.

It isnt hard to get help but sometimes the answer is just no. Like in real life we have to pay for the mistakes we make. Thats just how it is.

Pretty much this. If you have a software issue, or hardware issue with anything related to a blizzard product they either ignore it, or just tell you do a clean install, or delete some part of the game and run the repair tool.

Sqeenix will help you get the game working properly, the rest is up to you. While Blizz is the opposite, made a mistake they can teach any random schmo off the street to fix with some console commands or (by now probably a gui). Too bad you cant get both.

My biggest issue with the service is that it is all automated. Its like theres no staff on hand daily to work with the players that may have issues. And like I said before they had told me that it was all good, to drop the undesired gear, tell them the time\day it was dropped and the desired items would be mailed to me. Maybe if they didnt take a damn week to finally tell me oh sorry we messed up and now you're not going to get what you want, it would be a different story, but it did take them a week, and they did misdirect me and i started going a different way with my red scrips.Yes the initial mistake was mine, someone told me the new red scrip accessories\belt were meldable and i blew my load on them blindly.

Hell I even prepared for a no on the exchange. but i got a yes. Maybe if I had been able to interact with a GM this whole thing would have been a better experience even if the answer is no.Yes sometimes the answer is no in life. But even in real life you can get a refund and or exchange for "store credit" (which is what i was hoping) a hell of a lot easier than here. And in a game there is no loss of money on such a transaction

When you went to get the item, if you weren't the right class for it, it would have given you a confirmation window.
If you clicked the checkbox and confirmed, it's your own fault for not making sure it was the thing you needed.
All you can do is be more careful next time.
