Earthquake in Japan - Help

I have had the TV on all day here in Stockholm, Sweden wishing there was something I could do to help.
Many people are affected by this earthquake, tsunamis, and now possible radiation leaks from nuclear power plants.

I would like to suggest to the entire FFXIV community that we gather together and help support both Square Enix, but Japan as a whole as well, by donating money from all of us. Even 1$ is a lot from each individual, if we all do this together.

Although as I am unsure how to do this, thus I created this topic to discuss possible ways to help. In money form, or any other.

I don't see SE specifically needing our money, but I'm sure there will be relief organizations like the Red Cross(www. redcross.org) on the scene, and they can use all the donations they can get.

I didn't mean to SE specifically. Was more talking about helping Japan as a whole, and that way helping SE as well.

Don't donate anything to anyone except the red cross. Unless you know someone in Japan and give the money directly to them.

How come when US has a natural disaster like hurricane katrina, no other countries donate money to us? Or am I wrong? Are countries donating money to us when things like katrina happen?

Its often up to the affected country as to whether or not they'll accept international help for a disaster, keep in mind America is also hit with hurricanes every year. Wikipedia has an article about their responses.

Red Cross is actually a pretty despicable organization. Please don't give them money. Find someone else.

EDIT: My thoughts go out to those in Japan affected by this disaster, as well as any from other countries should they be impacted heavily (luckily so far it seems this isn't the case). I know many of my friends and colleagues here in Edinburgh feel the same, and I like to think I speak for many New Zealanders around the world when I say that, too.
