I've only ever encountered it once. The BLM from my FC AoE-sleep'd a pack of mobs to prevent an over-pull with an undergeared, struggling healer, because I'd derped and messed up mob positioning in a dungeon.

I think the BLM AoE sleep with an instant cast is by far the most powerful and underrated CC in the game. It could prevent a lot of wipes if used correctly. I'm guessing your FC's BLM is a skilled PvPer and had this as a keybind. Good for them, wipes suck.
