Jobs are for job use at times when jobs can be used. Classes are for anytime anywhere. Jobs have to quest for their action and abilities. Jobs have to quest for gear that is specific this includes weapons. Job actions and abilities are not interchangable with other jobs, they are specific.

You have to have the matching class/classes to the correct level to be able to quest for the job. He did say in one interview it would be something like Gladiator to lvl 30 and marauder to lvl 15 as a "unconfirmed example" to get Paladin.

This is from the interviews I have read.

Main thing to note is that Jobs are not going to replace Classes, but are for use only when allowed eg: parties (maybe) and quests (maybe), instanced/raids (again maybe).

The thing is nothing is set in stone yet, he said, so we will find out how it all really will work when he tells us, until then why worry about it, we have a fair while yet.

This is how I'm 99 percent sure the job system will work based on the interviews and everything I've read:

You level up a Gladiator to 30 and a Marauder to 15. This fulfills the requirements to unlock the Paladin quest. After completing this quest you receive a "job stone" that you can equip to have your level 30 Gladiator go into "Paladin Mode". This "mode" gives you access to unique skills that you gained through your job quests and blocks you out from using certain abilities from other classes that don't fit the theme of this mode, "tank" for paladin.

[Assumption]Going into Paladin mode changes your class stats as well. Your strength might drop a little, but you will see corresponding increases in vitality and maybe mind.

You gain access to special paladin only armor and weapons that further enhance your specialty as a tank.

Every 5 levels or so 35, 40, 45, 50, etc. you hit a threshold where a new paladin quest becomes available. Completing the quest ranks up your paladin and grants you some new abilities.

This all implies that Paladin won't be a stand alone class it's dependent on a base armory class that is temporarily transforming into that "mode" for party play. So if you want Paladins and other jobs to be a separate entity, all I can say is sorry that's not what they're going to do.

I agree with the OP, but at the same time, I disagree. I just really want the quests to be really well done and fun, and if they are going to be crap, take no time for a 50, and as such not allow you time to learn all of the skills that you are rapidly picking up as a 50, I'd rather level jobs from 1 via exp.

I dont wantt jobs to have thier own levels since jobs are supposed to be an alternate playstyle designed for parties. Like what would you say if your party asked you to change to Paladin, but your Paladin was like level 2, your a level 50 Gladiator?

Also this game is geared towards Casual, Mid core, and hardcore. Making every Job start at level 1 with a steep exp curve is pretty harsh to casual, and mid core players.

My suggestion to make everyone happy is to keep Jobs as intended, and just add a Merit System so players who want to grind can do so.

You know? A lot of people have their classes leveling ahead JUST because THAT Yoshida once said that we don't have to re-level job again if we already have classes leveled.

So he 'd better not change back on his word, or a lot of people will stop playing now and wait to level again after job released. Actually a lot of players would stop playing since long time ago and only wait for job release too if they said that job is separated.

I like the idea of jobs not having their own levels, because I think it gives each job+class set a viable option for small groups, soloing, and PvP as well as serious party play where everyone has a role. This is something that has long eluded most MMO developers, trying to balance content that is best done with generalists with content that is best done with specialists. By always having a job and a class to choose from, this problem may very well be solved for FFXIV, without making everyone so similar it doesn't matter what class you are or specializing them all so much they can't kill a rat solo.

However, I do think that they need to make good on their promise to give jobs their own growth through quests. If we just end up with 3-5 per job for one new ability each then it will feel like there isn't enough content or lore for the jobs to exist in the game, and it may not be enough to give them the advantages they need in order for jobs to clearly be the better choice for parties. We need to have many quests for both abilities and equipment, and then it will be fine.

They definitely have their work cut out for them, considering every new addition to the game will require both a class and a job to be balanced separately (but with some of the same abilities and strengths), and jobs will all come with several quests.

I'd like jobs to be a leveling thing but i just hope that the quests they have to get abilities or whatever for the jobs are fun and challenging and also include nice storylines and lore for the jobs. I have to say though when they add more classes and jobs to match as well as level cap raises it would become alot of things to level up maybe even more so than in FFXI.

Jobs will not have their own separate EXP, and should not even be considered.
