People are putting way to much emphasis on the terms Job and Class. Jobs as they are planned are just quests to enhance a specific party role. At the core, you're still the class the you chose with some restrictions and some buffs. That's it.

This entire concept is not new either as SE has done this before with XII to a degree. Original XII had your characters fill whatever role they wanted and you could "cross-class" as many abilities as you wanted. FFXII: International Zodiac Job Edition forced you into specific roles throughout the game and you lost the ability to "cross-class". However, your job was several times more powerful than it could be in XII. SE combined this concept in one game.

I think the best way to implement jobs is the way they're doing it, however...
I feel that these jobs quests should put you in situations that you work with NPCs and have to learn your class to finish each mission, a different skill with each mission, with the final mission being a cumulative effort. Like each quest is homework and the final quest is a test to see if you're worthy of using that job in endgame. And I mean the final quest should be HARD and something that only the best of the best of each job can do, ones that try their hardest and are prepared.

Like PLDs will have to keep hate off NPCs and tank, WHM's will have to heal multiple people, one target, WAR will have to do enough damage utilizing their skills in enough time, etcetc. I don't think you it should tell you EXACTLY how to play your class, as to leave room for theorycraft and otherwise, but I think it should cover the basics in the end.

they may share the same exp, but jobs truly levels up by quest. armor, abilities, spells, weapons skills etc is all quested i believe.

It is interesting and i'm looking forward to it.

Just think of jobs as having no levels, then you dont have to assimilate the concept of "auto levelling" into your archaic mind.

forget branching classes, you already know whats going to happen. /sh i want this class combo only and thats it!!!

all it will do is make people level jobs/classes they dont want to, like ffxi's sub jobs crap party cuz of it.

I have to admit that at first I was disappointing by the "auto leveling" of jobs, but I think now that the idea of quests to do so is much better, the fact that they could give each job a huge amount of lore using this system alone is a great thing.

Jobs aren't leveling. Jobs are just a stance. It would be pointless to level up a stance. How could you level up Speed Surge... Oh... You level up your MAIN and you get Speed Surge II (stance). /thread

I like the fact that jobs will be the same level and what not. I however wouldn't mind seeing a skill system for the job. Somewhat like XI had because I did really enjoy the skill up parties. I know it was kind of annoying having to skill up when you were already max level but for example maybe a skill or two get augmented when you reach say 100 skill in Monk. They are probably not going to let you get the job quest until at least 25 so it wouldn't be a complete mess with all the current 50's running around with 0 skill in the job they are playing, it will be brand new though.

if jobs were substantially different, like most of us wish they were, then i say they are stupid to not do it that way. Becuase its more of a "tack on" pretty much there to say "hey look guys, something FF!" and is more of a minor change from what we have to specifiy roles, i would rather not, honestly they way it sounds, its like playing the same class for 50 levels again with some slight skill changes.

either way, if they did it with a new exp bar, it would have to be set up completely new. new weapons, armor, skills through cap...ect. The system they have is equip stone > quest a hanful of skills/gear...done
