Only way for them to offset this is if they make the quests to obtain abilities really hard and require like 3 people (6 is too many especially after job hype dies out). Also make you have to do like 30 quests not like 5.

Probably won't be very many quests because:

You get the job at 30 (unless this is changed).
That leaves 20 possible levels to have a quest for.
The trend for the classes is an ability every other level.

Seems like a possible 10 quests but even this seems a bit high since 10 quests x 7 jobs = 70 quests and in the game there is only 150~ or so total quests.

And considering creating cut-scenes (most likely) for each of the quests it would be unlikely for them to make 10 quests per job. Don't get me wrong, I hope they have at least 10... it's still possible, but I feel like if they do have this many they won't be engaging and the cut scenes will just be the same super-long-text-paragraph-paragraph and not anything particularly epic.

I want to see voice acting, CGI cutscenes, excitement. Not my dude standing still, then quirking my eye every once and a while why another NPCs mouth moves up and down as a huge wall of text fills my screen/log. And some EPIC music, I'm pretty disappointed in the music choice thus far, although I thought the Grand Company music for the Foundation Day event was pretty nice. I want some Norg music and that oh so familiar "mystery" style music that played during quests in FFXI.

They already stated a quest every 5th level so if you count the rank 30 quest you get 5 quests

I know. I read that too, although I didn't cite that example because I thought that it was just an 'example' that Yoshi used. If you read my post, I was responding to the person who wanted 30 quests.

My post was just to show that the most they would do is 10 quests, based on the "skill every other level" trend they use. But also how this seems like it would be way too many.

    Yep, thanks n' stuff..

I'll adapt with either decision... but if I had my way, I'd prefer for jobs to have their own separate XP bar. If I want to play a Paladin, I'd rather start from level 1. My reasoning is that I like to learn my role and skills from very early on. That's just me though...

    I agree with this, actually.

I enjoy starting from scratch and building up from there. So, I'd be fine with starting from 1 on each Job.

However, I realize there are people who hate the leveling process and would be happy if we were level 50 to start.. but that would be boring as hell to me as well as to many others who've expressed as much in other threads, etc.

So... while, speaking for myself, I'd prefer to start from level 1. I also realize that there are people who would hate to have to level every job from one, after leveling each class to 30, etc.

And since Yoshi's goal is to find a balance between the casual and the hardcore player, I think the system they're working on is a good compromise.

After all, there is still a sense of progression for developing jobs once you've unlocked them, via unlocking skills. And there's other forms of progression/development... getting job-specific gear, quests, etc. etc.

If I were a Paladin, a sword using role, I would naturally gain experience using a sword. So, it would follow that by playing as a paladin, the Sword Class skill would raise as well.

However, playing a Gladiator would not naturally increase your paladin skills. Because the Paladin and Gladiator are so similar, you don't need to spend a month using a sword and a few more skills to become a Paladin, you simply need to learn the abilities that differentiate a Paladin from a Gladiator.

So, obviously the dev team saw quests as a much more fun, interesting, and potentially more challenging method to introduce these abilities to players.

I agree with them and I think your idea is terrible.

While you do have a valid point, look at say... Martial Arts (Since its the closest in relativity). Any profession really though. You can go to a gym and take Karate classes and progress to a high level belt in a decent period of time. I personally made it to purple belt in about 8 months eons ago when I was still a youngster. Just by knowing the fighting techniques and styles does not make you a professional fighter nor that you can even come close to swinging with say, a UFC fighter. To progress to a level like that takes years of dedication, skill refinement, and traveling around taking in new styles and blending it with your own personal flavor. I view Jobs the same way, and even Yoshi himself has mentioned on several occasions he wants things to be easy to pick up and play but difficult to master.

If you spend a year and a half learning karate, and there are 5 karate skills you do not know, you do not spend another year in a class that teaches something you already know. You get someone to specifically teach you those certain skills you have not learned, and then you master them on your own.

That is assuming that a Job is simply going to have just two or three extra skills. By narrowing your class action choices I understood it to be that Jobs will have their own array of abilities and allow only a slim number of other actions to be set. But since we're both operating under assumptions, either one of us could be entirely wrong.

Why not have it so you can pick to have it auto level to your class or you can pick to have to exp again
