Katarh is a tabby cat. Everyone seems to have pale blonde Miqo, so I originally went with making her a ginger tabby. Then I decided to darken her a bit.Hey guys! So I've always been curious on what goes on the thought processes of when people create their characters. I'm more so leaning towards the visual aspect of this discussion.
When you make your character; do you base it off your appearance IRL, a fantasy, or just something random you want to create.
I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts
Her brown, black, and tan coloration is based off my real life kitty cat, who is a standard brown tabby.
Definitely a lot of interesting replies here! And yas! I'm definitely following Catwho's Eorzea fashion blog! Anyone else with similar blogs and media forms should share them with me; I'd love to see more of Eorzea's aesthetic![]()

"Fabulousness Always Ensured"
I draw my character a lot, and also do comics as a hobby.I draw comics so whenever I make a character anywhere I'm always thinking about it as it's own person. I never make myself as I'm boring. I went with Miqo'te cause Tail. Seriously they were the race that stood out to me the most. I'm still and always changing things with Remy as one day red hair looks good then a month later blonde is god. For me, it's all about what I want to look at for hours, and when you give me a choice it'll ALWAYS be a cute girl. Cause you gave me choice. I just can't make a final choice on colors since my taste changes on a daily bases.
I'm the exact opposite when it comes to changes with Kallera. I find major changes difficult to do, even hairstyle changes take a while to get used to, and I've always gone back to black hair and red highlights I picked Elezen because I had originally chosen that in xi for Kallera, but that's pretty much where the similarities end. I got hooked on the lore for Duskwights. Even now I still see parts of her original design still present, and I like it, shows the consistency of a long running character.
Are you yourself on tumblr?

In every MMO I make something cute. I like cute things because they are soft and fluffy and happy and full of snuggles.![]()
Half fashion doll, half projection I guess. We have similar hairstyles.
I do not create tall or big characters, as I am one in real life (Elezen, Roegadyn, Highland = fail)
I usually make smallish characters, because I think that a small catgirl with tons of hitpoints punching a dragon is the funniest thing ever. (Au'Ra, Mi'qote, Hyur = pass)
I will, however, avoid picking the tiniest characters, as I'm not the biggest fan of super-deformed, popoto or child-like proportions. (Lalafell = fail)
I prefer lithe and graceful body types, so I will usually default to female characters. Most games' male characters are too muscle-bound, large-shouldered, hulking brutes. (Hyur male = good, Au'Ra male = not my cup of tea)
The animations emotes of my characters are very important, as I often communicate through them rather than chat. (Hyur arm flailing animation = fail. Mi'qote F and Au'ra F = good)
I tend to avoid using most of the options in character creators, because very often it feels like every player feels they need to pick one of each. Adding all the Tatoo + Scar + Heterochromia + Highlights in hair + Face markings + Lipstick + Eyeliner + Butterfly or heart is too much. I feel picking only one or two makes those traits stand out rather than blur with all the others.
I tend to pick rather tanned skin tones, mostly because the game's lighting seems to wash it out and make them look "normal". Anything that is "pale" skinned almost turns out white as a ghost in the world.
I love love love freckles. It must be my Irish heritage, but I love them to death, and will almost always pick the face/skin option to have them.
In the end, the character I play tends to wear colors I like, are often dressed sensibly, and will normally have a have a "girl next door" vibe to them -- not overly sexy or provocative. While I will sometimes pick outfits that show off their curves, I usually pick very tomboy clothing, because I prefer to be seen as a kickass action-girl than a princess or doll.
Fantasy. Final Fantasy VI exactly. main character i use is Cyan Garamonde because the character actually resembles him a little bit, especially with the ponytail hairstyle you can get from the gold saucer imo. Can't wait for Samurai job...
I made Rhuaza X'atoh (sounds like "Razah Sawtoh") because I wanted more dark skinned kitties, and because I'm a lore geek. I wanted to bend the rules with keepers and make Rhu live in Ul'dah. I had this whole "Queen of the Sands" idea. (seekers were never my cup of tea). I also wanted to make her to look her personality. Elegant, a hunter, caring, etc. Something like that lol
Woah there friendo
Let's calm it down
Dark skin kitties are sexy kitties ;o Same for FemRoes...and also Fem Highlanders... yay dark skin girlsI made Rhuaza X'atoh (sounds like "Razah Sawtoh") because I wanted more dark skinned kitties, and because I'm a lore geek. I just spend hours in character creators till I find something I like for females. My male characters generally look relatively close to what I look like irl if at all possible.
