Wait, there's an Original Fat chcobo? Where is it?

A little off-topic, but a question I've wondered about for a while. How do players have upwards 5,000 commends let alone 3,000+? I play almost everyday (since commends were introduced), generally get 1-2 commends per content and I am only sitting in the 2Ks. Am I just bad and should be expecting 3-5+ commends per run, or am I missing something?

Play healer.. DPS are almost always disposable when it comes to commendations.. People seem to naturally gravitate toward commendating the tank or healer, even if they arent very good
