Suggest: Changing roles during a duty

I'm sure most of us have experienced the issue where we're in a duty finder party and the tank has disconnected, or the healer, and you need a replacement. You or one of your party already has that job and can switch to it, but you'd have to leave the group to do so. You leave, re-queue and end up in a totally different party.

I suggest one of two things. Either allow players to switch to another Disciple of War/Magic class when the group is below full membership, or allow them to temporarily leave and return to the same group so they can switch jobs outside of the dungeon.

This would solve a lot of problems, especially with the shortage of tanks we seem to always have.

I'd be down for this. It'll only happen if a party member drops and you have a window to change before you're asked to replenish ranks.

I'd love to be able if somebody, like a tank, left and you requeued that you had the option to requeue as something else. Too many I've sat waiting for 15 mins cause the tank left. I'd rather just switch to tank and finish it.

RIFT does this without any issues. Not sure why a more-current game can't handle it, especially one that totes "Being able to play everything on one character"

I fully support this idea. And to only be able to do it when you've lost that type of role would be a good option.

Having left a party as a DPS for the intent of re-joining as a tank, this would be a great feature.
The worst time was, I was once in The Vault and our tank and healer left. Right at the last boss! We hadn't even engaged, so it's not like it was a wipe causing a ragequit. I offered to leave and come back as either one once one of the two others were filled. The other DPS was cool with that. Five minutes later a tank joins, so I tell them I'll be right back. Swapped over to healer and tried in-progress and I couldn't find them! I assume someone else got in before me. I even waited a minute to try again in case they were slow on the Replenish Ranks button. But nothing. I fear they thought I abandoned them.

1.0 allowed you to change classes on the fly, in dungeons or whatever, so as long as you weren't in battle. It was helpful, though the downside of it was people wanted others to have multiple classes ready to go for the best of speedruns. Though they took out the speedrunning rewards with 2.0 so I don't even see the downside anymore!

Why wouldn't you want this in duty finder? I think it would work fine as long as the remaining party members have to vote to allow a change.

I'd support this **ONLY** if it was implemented in the following way:

Should a member of the party drop out of a duty the remaining members are given the choice to change to the missing member's job type to fill that position. They are then given the opportunity to fill the now vacant position from the duty finder pool. In Alliance (24 man) content this would apply across Full Parties but the option to replenish would not be given (to avoid manipulation of the party make up).

For example - In a Light Party the healer leaves & the position is filled by a DPS changing to healer. The DPS position is then replenished in the usual way.

In an Alliance situation the tank from Alliance A drops & the position is filled by a DPS from Alliance C. The DPS position on Alliance C remains unfilled throughout the duty.

Let's not forget adding in the requirement that whatever job your changing to, is up there in required ilvl. I'd love to be able to change in duty when someone flops. Too many times have I offered to switch, only to get the exact same dungeon but with a different party in progress, or not getting in at all.
