    Water Spells for Black Mages

I know at least a few people have wondered why Black Mages don't have water spells when it's practically a staple in the FF universe, so why not give them it in FFXIV?
I'd like to make a few suggestions for what the Water spells could be.

    Water
    Acquired: Lv.7
    Cast: 2.50 seconds
    Potency: 100
    Duration: 15 seconds
Additional Effect: Debuffs the target, making them slightly more vulnerable to Thunder spells (this could mean more damage from the initial impact and DoTs and/or guaranteed Thunder crits).

    Water II
    Acquired: Lv.24
    Cast: 2.00 seconds
    Duration: 30 seconds
Places a pool of water at target location (about the size of Ley Lines). All enemies standing in the pool of water receive damage from Thunder spells (but only the main target receives the Thunder DoT).

    Water III
    Acquired: Lv.48
    Cast: 3.50 seconds
    Potency: 240
Additional Effect: Debuffs the target, making them greatly more vulnerable to Thunder spells (this could mean more damage from the initial impact and DoTs and/or guaranteed Thunder crits).

With the addition of these spells, perhaps Thunder IV could be made into a spell that can only be cast on targets with the Water I/III debuff and while Enochian is active.

What are your guys' thoughts on this?

Water is already in the game, as a CNJ ability. If any class/job was to get higher tiers of it it would be CNJ/WHM.

As well the Water spell line isn't actually that common in FF, only X and X-2 actually let players use the -ra and -aga versions to my knowledge.

Wind Water Earth are CNJ/WHM abilities
Fire Ice Lightning are THM/BLM abilities

It was done this way to split the elements between Black Magic and White Magic. Water Stone Wind are protective/restorative, and Thunder Ice and Fire are destructive. For example, Benefic, Physick and Cure are Wind based spells, Stoneskin is Earth.

Although, in 1.0 BLM had water spells, especially Flood.

Conjurer had all six 'base' elements, originally, which included Flare, Flood, Burst, Tornado, and so on. Thaumaturge (jobs didn't exist at launch) had astral/umbral theme in the form of Banish, Dia, Gravity, and Bio.

That said, AST uses an ice-based casting animation for their heals. Compare the color of the swirl with that of Blizzard, for example.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This will just have to fade back into the world of my imagination.

Water spells would not work for Black Mages. As people have stated, Conjurer/White Mage already has those in their spell roster. As was pointed out by Jonnycbad, the elements are split down the middle for the two jobs. Their lore has nothing to do with Water anything (Ice not included due to it being it's own element) so it would not make sense for them to have access to water spells.

Now if Red Mage is ever added to the game, sure we might see a mixture of the elements but until that point they will stay separated as the lore depicts... Plus it seems like your descriptions are trying to mostly use the spell to buff thunder for some reason. As far as I've seen, Thunder works well enough on it's own sooo... it still doesn't fit well, sorry dude.
