The fact that tri-bind was nerfed, and sleep wasn't what make this incredibly hilarious. BLM whores the hell out of sleeps as well.
I can't tell you how many times I got slept, and used Purify to get out of it, only to get slept again instantly.

Honestly I think it's just a misunderstood overall balancing of SMN with BRD/MCH with an eventual nerf to blm's sleep as well. It was poorly timed but people are acting like it's the end of the world.
Probably, I guess it's reasonable to expect the eventual nerf of sleep AND Bind, BOTH of which AoE... right? I've seen BLMs repeatedly use Freeze and Sleep just to keep us from moving.

I guess the difference is they don't have massive passive fire-and-forget damage ticking away on you. With some changes to sleep I think all the ranged will be in the same realm of play. We'll have to wait and see
BLM is not popular as SMN so it is not touched, so simple!
Balance in this game means balancing the number of players of each job. ^^;
We had no chances to damage people so we needed our long sleep just to give us blm breathing room. Did you guys forget that before today? With the changes to our in interrupts they may nerf it but then you forget how vital it is in front lines to have that sleep to hold off the rushing armies for as long as it does.
I assume Sleep will be looked at too once a statistically significant number of BLMs are back in the fight. BLMs have been relying on distance a heck of a lot more than SMNs due to their poor selection of fast casts and its natural that when SMNs are dominating to the extent they were then it was them who got the attention. BLM spams sleep because there's very little else it can do at all in many situations in comparison. If they can work on that and make the two jobs equally desirable in PVP I think a nerf to Sleep/Repose/NW effect durations would be very reasonable.
So i've been testing SMN vs BLK, the damage nerf seems fine, for the most part although your still effectively useless between aetherflow stacks unless you can hit a few Ruin III's, black mage is now super potent with fire VI and not being interupted so easly (im not a good tested for BLK but i'll learn XD) That said on topic.
If thats your argument id like to take a look at Freeze, because its exactly what you described, WITH 100 potency! and geuss how long it is! 12 sec!
so your argument is invalid and pushed my point further. not only is Sleep over powered in comparison to bind but black mage also has a 12 sec bind when summoner has a 6 second bind.
so lets look at which skills each class has in comparison:
SMN
Tri-bind: cast 2.5s/ potency 30/ effect: Bind 6s ranged attack. small Aoe
Ice II cast 2.0/ potency 50/ effect: bind 8s close range aoe
BLK
Ice II cast 2.0/ potency 50/ effect: bind 8s close range aoe
Freeze cast 3.0/ potency 100/ effect: bind 12s LARGE ranged Aoe
Sleep cast 2.5/ potency 0/ effect: Sleep 15s long range Aoe
NW cast instant/ 0/ effect: sleep 10s (upgrade 15s) Long range Aoe
so if im to take these skills into consideration and look at how long i could potentially cc someone (taking resistance build into account) forgoing purify and such. using longest potency bind/sleep.
SMN: 3x ice II = 14s
BLK 3x sleep = 25s 3x freeze = 21 = 46s
and if you want to ague the point further on damage with this spell rotation for each class the total potency of their cc rotation is:
SMN 150
BLK 300
so can anyone see how the change wasnt fair in the slightest? and both classes have access to swift so you cant use that as an excuse. :P
That wasn't my argument, that was a joke. But if you want to compare SMN vs BLM in PvP, look at instant cast damage spells/abilities, and then tell me SMN needs to create distance as much as BLM.
