Does this actually happen? It's never happened to me before, but I've always been a little paranoid about it. I really don't like signatures for that reason, and I doubt anyone actually pays attention to the signatures on the equipment someone is using. I've always thought it was silly to have an anonymous retainer system for selling goods, but then slap the crafter's name down on everything and show it on the MB listings.

If the item you sell is actually made by you. I re-sold quite a few items made by someone else because I simply didn't need them in the rather large quantity they sold them at. It was still their name that showed up, not mine.

That's another problem with it, though. I feel weird re-selling an item that has another crafter's name on it if I purchased more than I needed. ;_; And you could potentially abuse it I guess, but I doubt anyone would take the time.

It happens, and a lot, if you are in a minimally organized crafting LS/group you will see how its basically a daily topic about X or Y guy market behavior, and many go as far as "talking them into reason" when it comes to pricing, several times i`ve been either nicely suggested to change my market behavior or harassed, and sometimes i`ve felt the need to do it to others too (good thing im a good guy!) just because sometimes the market board is ughghhajsdhasdkjas...

I've never had an issue with most of these things, and they seem more like design choices you personally disagree with rather than actual faults. Even in MMORPGs with listing fees, people undercut significantly and overnight you can see the value of an item drop by over 50%, the only solution would be to have a really heavy fee and that would be problem of its own. I do agree with the buy order suggestion though, I have to wonder why we don't have that. Would be nice both to buy and sell items instantly for the price people are willing to actually pay. As for saying it would always be worse, I'm simply stating that it isn't the most primitive thing out there, or even close.

But to answer the other two above, I personally have never been contacted by anyone negatively, but I have seen it mentioned here before. I did actually have a kind soul track me down once to let me know that I had listed an item for 5g instead of about 20k, so that was nice

... the same name on Gilgamesh surprised me especially as it is a unique name. I lodestoned the name out of curiosity and found the same name on every server on most including my own he never had a job over 17.

Was the name "Obtaining Signature" by any chance?

The crafter signature should be invisible on the market board till the a player adquieres the item... But hey,we have the most primitive market board in the current MMORPG market.

I want to know what a piece of gear is going to say before I buy it. There have been several cases where I wouldn't buy an item because I found the name obnoxious enough that I wouldn't want to see it on my character's gear. We shouldn't have to pay for an item before we can find out whether it's a piece we'd want to use or not.

I personally kinda enjoyed XI's version of the market board. Completely blind, you saw what the price was selling for and made a bid if it matched one that someone posted then congrats, if not then you try again. Sure there was undercutting I am sure but you could never really tell. I have only gotten one angry tell but that was because I posted a crafted primal weapon for I think it was 2mil when the only one up there was at 7mil.
