Best Disciple of Magic DPS class

    Hello everyone,

I have been playing as an Arcanist/Summoner so far. I was wondering if I would be having more fun as a Thaumaturge/Black Mage? I know this might just come down to a which one you prefer to play or the play style that I have. Just trying to get an idea of how others see the classes. Also, which would be better in end game PvE content?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

BLM is of course more pure offense. No healing spells at all (Summoner is the DPS side of Arcanist, of course, and Duty Finder will class you as a DPS, but you still have a little bit of healing in there). If you want to pump out pure big numbers, you want BLM. But you give up flexibility. Up to you. Both are good in the end-game--you certainly don't see any lack of Summoners there.

As far as raw numbers are concerned, BLM > SMN

BLM is also a bit more fun to level, with you getting your main AoE attack at level 18 instead of 30 or later like most classes. You also get into your main damage rotations a lot faster than SMN, who don't really change dramatically till they get Dreadwyrm Trance at 58.

SMN has the advantage of being a lot easier to do solo content with since they have their own personal tanking pet. The class is also pretty forgiving of input mistakes since their main damage comes from automatic DoT ticks and pet attacks instead of damage spells.

Tmg/blm is all about burst damage. If you like to see those big numbers, that is the class for you. It lacks the utility of acn/smn so you have to solo a little more strategically. The big DoT numbers though belong to acn/smn. Very fun class to play if you don't mind not seeing burst numbers and content with sacrificing that for utility.

Seeing how this game offers a chance to level all classes on one character, and you even benefit from it in form of cross class skills, I say try them both to see which fits you better. Even if you are going to pursue the career of summoner, getting the swiftcast from level 26 black mage certainly wont hurt. Neither of them is overlooked in high level content so there is no one right answer to which one is better.
