Phantasy Star Universe on XBOX 360 didn't require Gold (was sub based) and as such set the precedent so I don't see why would the hypothetical FFXIV release require it. I think it was also the case for FFXI?

To be fair PSU allowed you to play single player offline, you didn't have to play it as an mmo, just like PSO

FFXI on the Xbox 360 didn't require Gold either. But Microsoft is insisting on Gold for FFXIV and won't budge. Don't complain to me about it; talk to Microsoft.

Sure it would be nice to have FF14 on the xbox one, more revenue for the game would be nice. But to be honest if Phil spencer and SE are in talks at the moment all i really want right now is "DISSIDIA FOR XB1, DISSIDIA FOR XB1!!!!"

I keep hearing about Gold Subscription but dont playstation players needs their subscription to go online with PS4 as well as the FF14 subscription? I am not an Xbox person and I play on PC so really asking about this whole thing.

You do not need PS+ to play XIV on the PS3 or PS4. Only to play non F2P/P2P games.

We are only required to pay for online play when its on their network. Games like FFXIV are not run in any way by Sony... Although I can't imagine anyone having a PS4 and not having PS+ just because with the free games and stuff it pays for itself.

The problem with FFXIV on Xbox is Microsoft is greedy. Remember they are the ones that had to change their plans shortly before the release of the One because bright idea of locking games to specific systems... and they lost a lot of customers to Sony even though they changed their minds.

EDIT: To be clear EVERYONE should be fighting for this to happen. Console gamers don't have much for options when it comes to MMOs. That means people interested in an MMO but without a PS4 or PC good enough to play one they would nearly be forced into playing here. That increases the number of people playing (and paying) for FFXIV which means more stuff for all of us.

Nope, ffxiv on ps4 does not require a playstation plus subscription.

They also don't want to link up to Sony's network, which would be required for cross platform and wanted their own exclusive servers. This was the main reason the Xbone release was canceled long ago. I will remind the PS4 requires a subscription for online but doesn't impose this on XIV

Ps4 doesn't require a subscription for online technically. You don't need PS+ for netflix, YouTube, Internet browsing, stuff like that. You can get online on a ps4 without paying

You do need a ps+ sub for online multi-player games like CoD or battlefield or ESO or anything like that, UNLESS the game itself requires a subscription (xiv)
