Started as SMN, coz Summoning duh

eventually obtained my "Free" SCH, had fun

slowly realised i had more fun as SCH and was vastly better at it than SMN

then realised i got to take stupid risks and still pull it off due to SCH's safety barrier

this continued into HW, being known by my friends and those i play with as a dire-risk taking healer who will pull through wipe situations.

    {SCH'd through HW, did SMN stuff at 60}

Leveled AST (before WHM 50-60) as by this time i was Healer main and wanted to try it

Had the most fun ever due to the engagement of AST and the things i could do with it. [personally it felt like playing SCH for me, but with a WHM toolkit... idk why]

Said I would sub AST and remain SCH main.

    Failed

Got AST lore wep first and thats sealed it.

so to "answer the reason", gameplay

I do like and play all 3 jobs. I have no "fixed" main.

Currently...my choice depends on the encounter design. After some time I get a feeling, which healing toolit fits better to an encounter.

In my raid group I'm paired with an AST. So I have the choice between WHM and SCH.

In A5 I prefer the WHM. Into A6 I do go as SCH. In A7 I clearly prefer WHM. A8. We will see.

I leveled WHM as my third class (fisher first, pld next when it was still lv 50 cap max), learned to stance swap around toto-rak level and liked the simpleness of WHM. No hassle with pet, just raw healing is what got me hooked. That way I didn't have to focus on the class too much and I could actually watch scenery, pay attention to what other people did and what was happening overall. But that didn't happen until later in the game when I got better at dodging things! The Haukke Manor (Hard) first boss surely reminds me of that every time with the blizzard circle on the floor.

When Uta first arrived to Gridania, she had big dreams of picking up the biggest sticks and poking bad people with them. For a while, Uta was content with this, and eventually obtained the coveted Gae Bolg +1, because that was still a thing back then. Then, Uta became dismayed that she wasn't allowed to join Wanderer's Palace clears because "Dragoon's don't have enough AoE DPS". That was fine though. She managed to gear up properly for the Binding Coil despite that, and things were okay for a while. Then, the Beast Tribes unleashed Extreme Primals, and Uta wasn't allowed to play anymore. "loldrg" they said. "Garuda is too hard for Melee. Casters only" they claimed.

Uta was sick and tired of people's crap. She picked up an Arcanist's Tome because her good friend Ulric was already a White Mage. Despite being nearly a full-patch behind the curve, she got geared up. Omnilex +1'd, and then proceeded to one-shot Turns 1-4. She even solo-healed Turn 4 because the White Mage lost connection as soon as the pull happened. "Keep going, I've got this." she said, and then she did. (quick shoutout to those tanks. It wouldn't have been possible had the Paladins not rotated their cooldowns perfectly during the final few phases; especially the expert use of Hallowed ground back when people "didn't see the point" of it.) She then went and learned Garuda properly, and solo-healed that too. "Y'know, I might be kind of good at this. Forget Dragoon, what ever was I thinking." and thus Uta remained a Scholar for the rest of her days.

Still trying to pick a healing job, personally. Between all of them, what would you say is the simplest to use effectively? It looks like WHM to me...

I've adopted both personas, even going as far as to tell my FC mates that if my SCH and WHM were separate characters, my SCH would constantly shake her head at my WHM. And since I role-play mildly, you can expect different conversations from each.

My WHM is definitely the tree hugging, idealistic, bubbly healer who would rather retire to a life of botany, weaving, and dancing if not loyal to her duties. She's a princess and every bit as vain. Kind of tank clingy too. My SCH is the intellectual, constantly learning about the enemy and how to deploy the endless tactics she develops. You will sooner find her at the alchemists guild, deep in her books than searching for the latest fashion upgrades.

But I definitely agree the conjurer class is more difficult to heal (keyword) with up to this point. You have more healing utility but also the sole responsibility. I find regen really helps adapting to WHM from SCH.

I would say WHM is the more straightforward and easier to pick up of the three, compared to AST only having two oGCD heals (Essential Dignity and Collective Unconscious) and Sects, and SCH, who has to manage their fairies and Aetherflow and is usually expected to be the off-healer and add DPS.

White Mage, it's an iconic job from the series, it always looks great in its white and red robes, mine's a simple reason but I've just loved the class in Final Fantasy

    Impossible to hate.

    Terribly uninteresting I'm afraid.

I was a Paladin main because my girlfriend, who I was playing with at the time, wanted to be a White Mage. It just made sense for me to run as a tank, so we can breeze through all the dungeon queues together. Well, I struggled to get myself to 50 because I wasn't enjoying tanking, and that lack of enjoyment was preventing me from getting very good at it, which just made me have even less fun, you get the idea. Well, I was watching a popular FFXIV Twitch streamer at the time doing some endgame AK and WP runs on their SCH. I thought it actually looked really cool, and decided to level an Arcanist so I could level up my Scholar.

Well, at first I wasn't that crazy about it, but when my CoB static at the time, needed someone to sub out a healer (we had plenty of people that could run back-up Tank and everyone knew I was kinda the weak link in the static because of my sub-par tanking), they asked me to switch to my SCH, which was my second-most geared class. I ended up enjoying the chaotic healing/DPSing of T1 and T2, and from there I continued to solely gear my SCH. Never looked back after that.

SCH because I believe it to be the best healer in the game and most useful, also fun to play.

I ran into a WHM that let the MT die several times in sephirot ex. So he tells me to handle healing and he'll add more dps, I ended up healing P1 and P2 as SCH while WHM is dpsing.
