Dark Knight was always Tanky. And sacrificed HP because it could afford to do so.

I think it's more it sacrifices HP to make everything beefier which is missing is why people complain.

That and from the current meta just has problems in certain areas.

More like readapted, reapplied, reintroduced, and a reminder that XIV is its own game like any other in the FF franchise. Every job changes on some level with every new game, while leaving behind some resemblance of that job at its core concept. This game is no different.

Except it hasn't. Jesus, how can anybody call something tanky when it revolves around sacrificing HP to deal even more damage? Just because it used armor not unlike DRG? My, my. Always been tanky.
Sacrificed, leeched back, highest HP totals, and took much less damage than other jobs, with a couple of jobs being able to take more punishment. Sounds pretty familiar, actually! Hm.

I like you <3 Good to see I'm not alone in this line of thinking.

Granted I would have liked darkness in some form with DRK. However, ultimately with how the game's meta is, it would be counter-intuitive.

Dark Arts is the spiritual successor I guess, only it goes off MP

Except, not really. Also, by that standard, MNK was also a friggin tank. Highest HP pool by far. Sounds familiar? It's called WAR.

Dark knight took less damage than jobs in leather or cloth armor due to the style of armor they wore. Monk would never be able to work as a tank because, unlike darkkknight, they had abyssmal options for self sustain, and often wouldn't even wear armor. The high HP pool was given to them due to the fact that they'd take a lot more damage than other leather wearing jobs.

Just never mind really, we're not gonna think alike, but the fact that a tank starts by someone who takes hits, I think that's pretty obvious. A WHM using Blink was as tanky as a DRK or a DRG using armor.
It's less about who's gonnaaget hit, especially in a single player game because they're often designed so that everyone will be attacked at one point or another. It's about who can take hits better natively and who's best equipped to take hits

I'd say reinvent the wheel. Yoshida wanted this MMO to succeed(and it did and it's pretty fun) and that meant adhering to the standards of other MMO's and foregoing tradition(which longtime FF fans since the NES have issue with). To make all classes viable for all content which in a standard FF is simply not the case where other classes eventually fall off the map as you progress through the game and obtain more job classes. And when you plop Item recast timers and put Phoenix Downs as out of combat items yeah you already failed there. So no I'd say XIV is actually quite different from normal FF games out there. If you want I could take every jobs Iconic Job command and tell you what they did with them in this iteration and I'll tell you right now if it's accurate it's in limited fashion or a direct inverse of what it had always been.

Why do people want Blue Mage in this game?
It just wouldn't work not in this type of game.
I think, best case scenario, they should make it so at least you don't get the monsters' abilities so easily. Maybe a % chance based on how low your health is and how many times you actually got hit with the ability. I never was a fan of it only needing to get hit once (like in FF VII and FF X if I remember right), makes it too easy then.

Yeah but if you look here
    http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Knight
all the Dark Knights all sound the same, sacrificing HP and what not so new universe or not, Dark Knight sounds pretty consistent here, Soul Eater especially sounds like it does the same thing involves sacrificing HP but you know XIV is the special snowflake game of the series. XIV is an MMO sure, but it's also a mainline title. I don't think Dark Knights sacrificing HP would be fun for the healers though.
