I have been thinking, what kind of gear should the Blue Mage wear? Which weapons will it equip? Is Blue Mage going to get its own gearset like the other melee dps classes?
What do you guys think?

That depends. If its a Mage Tank than having its own Gearset is a certainty (For VIT+Spell Speed) but this isn't a Guarantee since DRK has spells but dosen't have its own Gearset. But if its a DPS, then it might Share caster gear (Either Way, I expect the Melee damage to work off VIT or INT, respectably)
As for weapons. Well There might be a few ideas: Maces/Flails, Twin Swords (though NIN makes that redundant), Whips, and magic items in the same vein as Grimoires and Astrolabes. Among other possibilities.
As far as gear, as Tank its possible exclusive Gearset woul either share models with tank Sets or Caster/healer sets (though the i100-110 gear seems to be the only sets that have different models for caster and healer gear) or both (Like Say having the i110 pvp gear share the Swansgrace Model, the Ironworks have the same model as the Ironworks Fending set and another set as Caster) If its a DPS or healer, then it would be locked into the related gear sets.
Many possibilities for gear but all Blue Mage seem to wear light cloaks not every practical for a tank

They are also the only mage that needs to take damage first before they can get stronger. BLU from my memory is generally a stout mage, like RDM.
I'm also getting a very odd feeling that something in the expansion, either BLU or (hopefully not) RDM will be using wands/clubs. Right now nothing but monk uses blunt damage, and those wands and matching shields were collecting dust. Before NIN came out they had stripped daggers from GLD/PLD, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them redistributed to a newly introduced mage.
I am not entirely sure why someone said ex wow players want it the most. I personally enjoyed it a lot in ffxi. And where I know it will not likely be as diverse in abilities (atm) I could easily see them adding its long grind for abilities to this game... considering the long grinds this game already works upon.
All this being considered, I think it would be best if released later when their would be a bigger amount of abilities to use, and that every ability would be required to grind instead of instantly learned as you level. (Excluding job quest earned abilities)
If that is considered unsatisfactory, then maybe it would work great as an added ability system to the job ability cross over list we have atm.
To answer said topic question, I would love to have it so that I have a job I feel like I am earning each ability for and where/how I learned said ability over... "Hey you just learned how to use a new dagger attack in a different way because your level advanced!"

i think it would be possible, i mean, look at Final Fantasy 11 , i mean yeah sure, it's job and skill gaining systems work differently but it sucessfully incorporates Blue mage into an awesome and fun to play class, i am sure that they could find a way to make it work and still be enjoyable in 14 where it would have even more potential.
FFXI might not be the best example because of how differently skills work. There's no fixed limit on how many spells or abilities you can use at any given time in FFXI. Heck, scholars have an exhaustive list of them, combining the best of white and black magic along with their own unique spells.i think it would be possible, i mean, look at Final Fantasy 11 , i mean yeah sure, it's job and skill gaining systems work differently but it sucessfully incorporates Blue mage into an awesome and fun to play class, i am sure that they could find a way to make it work and still be enjoyable in 14 where it would have even more potential.
Given the comparatively limited skill set we have in Heavensward, it wouldn't match up even remotely.
