I was wondering what happened to this place, what is the backstory behind it and if we can go (back) to it as a dungeon.

Im drawing a blank on what it is.

From a literal gameplay perspective, it's redundant - as in ARR it was amalgamated with two other 1.0 dungeons (Shohpsae and Mistbeard Cove) to form a new single dungeon, Sastasha Seagrot. Sastasha basically has features from all three dungeons, with if I remember rightly Cassopiea Hollow was used as the model for the first part of Sastasha, the 'underwater cavern' part complete with the giant clams that spawned fireflies, and even included an infamous NM called the 'Lone Coeurl' - hence Sastasha's first boss being a coeurl named 'Chopper'.![]()
Story wise though, if I remember rightly, being one of 1.0's 'public dungeons' (that is, it was open and not instanced), there was little backstory given to it other than it was a natural marine cavern that was suspected of harbouring pirates (one quest involved searching for a rumoured treasure there). But one of the other Loremasters would know more so I'll let them clarify or criticize this.![]()

(Found on google image)
It's basically this. It used to be a cave that was found near Bloodshore.

Enkidoh got pretty much all of it; one minor correction, the stuff attributed to the Hollow (Coeurl, pirate treasure, etc.) was about Shposhae. Incidentally, the Hollow also had pirates in it (the crew of the Stormcry), which brings us back around to "it'd be kind of redundant to still have all of them."
1.0 had a ton of caves and dungeons - many were sealed off by invisible walls. But one thing they all had in common was the the region determined the aesthetic. 90% of Mistbeard Cove looked like 90% of Cassiopeia Hollow looked like 90% of Sposhae. Everything in the Black Shroud was clearly Gelmorran at the base (which is why Toto-Rak and Tam-Tara made it pointless to still have Mun-Tuy as a separate place). It was a lot of copypasta aside from the 10% that gave it its identity.
And, yes, Sastasha has you enter the massive cave system beneath La Noscea and break out into Mistbeard Cove. You actually go right through the locked door we couldn't open in 1.0.
The Hollow did have one neat thing about it, though: two enormous serpent skeletons named for the great serpents of Llymlaen - Thalaos and Perykos. Why does Perykos usually get forgotten? The world may never know.

I see, Though I think the Calamity might allow for the place to be more distinct from Satasha, Changing the landscape and the enemies (thought that might make it too close to Pharos Sirius for it to salve the copypasta problem) Maybe the place got invaded by magicked monsters and killed the Stormcry Crew
Come to think of it. There is a place named for the former serpent near Poor Maid's Mill. Coudne;t remember seeing a paled named Perykos thoughThe Hollow did have one neat thing about it, though: two enormous serpent skeletons named for the great serpents of Llymlaen - Thalaos and Perykos. Ahh... Moose's picture contains the old Elementals...
Personally though, I think Cassiopeia Hollow should be redesigned and reworked back into the game as something else. It could look completely different. What's interesting is about where Cassiopeia Hollow used to be on the map is now The Grimlock's Lair. Mayhap that is more so what happened to the hollow? The Grimlock (an S class Hunt) moved in and took it over.

Hrm... I always thought the Calamity took a massive toll on that part of La Noscea. I think Bloodshore / Costa del Sol now is actually where South Bloodshore was in 1.0. The whole raised section we use to run about on is probably up the hill. Also, there's a nice little slab of coral like there used to be in Cassiopeia Hollow out in the bay east of Bloodshore.Ahh... I remember doing quests there! And there was a spot where elementals popped every 5 mins or so, and ppl farmed them all day long >_>!
Ahhh, the nostalgia D:
