I didn't say your alts should be deleted, I just say for most people if they under that level and have not played in a year they probably not coming back. I also have a alt under 30 that I rarely play but if they did decide to delete it, it wouldn't really bother me.I have several alts that I play infrequently that are under level 30, Why do you think that my characters should be deleted? What did I do wrong? What rule did I break? Oh, that's right, none. It's because someone else wants to take a name I selected. Sounds like a pretty damned severe form of player harassment if you ask me.
My point is/was, deleting a player's alt characters, even if they've been inactive since 2013 is a punishing that player for having an infrequently used Alt. You might not have a problem with it, but others would. The entire discussion is talking about something that is a punishment to those it affects, a punishment for no wrong doing purely for the convenience of others. That's ridiculous.

Also my question is, why even entertain the idea of it, if there is less dramatic alternatives to the issue? To be frank, given the fact we have both first name and surname... it shouldn't really be one at all.
Me: "Aww man I'm clicking all the wrong buttons tonight!"
Friend: "You're i190, you can't click a wrong button unless it is no buttons"
Me: "lol"

Or you can perhaps think of a different name? Something less mainstream?

Let's not do anything about a character who is only 15 days old and have not logged in for over one year.
Great idea.

On serious note: If a character has only 6 hours of playtime, and have not logged in for well over a year, I don't think anyone's gonna cry if they're deleted.
to summarize what I mean:
Any characters that have less than certain amount of playtime, of say... 40 hours, and have not logged in after a certain period of time, of say... 365 days, they should be deleted, obviously they have no interest in going back into the game.

I have a level 1 character with a name that I am holding. When I got married to my hubby in game I changed my name to match his last name and made a character with my old name in case I want it back in the event that we break up.
There are legitimate reasons someone will have a name on a low level character and have not logged in with that character.

Then simply log in with it. It's not hard if you really want the name. Also, it's kind of hypocritical to be against deleting characters for names for the very reason that you're holding a name..
I had the same character name for a long time but had to change it when I moved servers. The name is taken by a level 14 archer (I just checked again right now, the character hasn't budged levels in around 7 months).
I think it would be completely fair that SE delete characters under a certain level or playtime if they haven't logged in for a year. The chance of them returning is low and even if they did, I doubt they're going to miss a level 14 character with barely any gear. It would also help clear out some of the over populated servers.

So make it as an alt, make sure you log on to it every few weeks or so, and you're fine.
A year is plenty of time >_>
