Please give Mentees more control in the Novice Network.

So, this is an honest quest, as someone who let a friend play an alt - Please give Mentees more control in the novice network. More accurately, wheather or not they are added to the novice network, and wheather they continue participation IN the novice network.

The fact that a player can be added to the network without their consent, and then going one step further - that the only way for said new players to get out of the novice network is to turn off their new player sprout (detrimental to the player themselves) or by "Filtering it to not see the Novice network" leaves the novice at the Mercy of the Mentor.

My friend had to ask multiple times to be kicked before anyone would show them the kindness to remove them from the network, and it seems just plain silly that someone was allowed to invite them and refuse to remove them without their permission

It's funny because I was on the chat at the time this happened. About 4 sproutlings where asking to be removed in a short amount of time. Sadly, we can't really remove them (Kicking only gets them out for 30 minutes, and opens tickets) and removing their sprout means they can never go back if they do have a question.

I think it really needs to give them more leeway in being or explain how to filter it properly. Right now the chat on legacy server is very annoying, and I can see why sproutlings want out.

I made an alt to try out healing, and I HATE being added to that channel without my sayso. I ask to be kicked, and most are nice enough to do it, but it doesn't last. And I was actually kicked last night for "being RMT." Someone got kick-happy with kicking legit RMT and my alt got caught up in the spree. I'm hoping it doesn't affect my account. How do I turn off my sprout? I couldn't find any options to do so, so would like any instructions on how to do so.

If you want to remove the new player status, you can type /nastatusoff and turn it off that way - but it's permanent. For genuine new players, it's not a good choice or option.

I think you can also go into your "edit search comment" thingy (if you rightclick on your own name in party list) and change from New Adventurer to Online. It's been a while since I was there, but I think that you get a warning that doing this will remove your New Adventurer status permanently.

    But yeah >.< Not always a good thing for genuinely new people. If anything, the Novice Network should be added to that fourth chat tab that people can create. And if SE can't make that happen automatically (create fourth tab if non-existent, name it Novice Network, and filter novice network to the only thing visible in that tab), one should inform Sprouts on how to do this ^^;

Of course, the absolute best thing to do would be to treat invites and leaves to novice network the same as with any other Linkshell. You get an invitation and get to choose whether to accept it or not. And you can leave the LS/NN if you don't feel you fit in anymore.

    I agree with this thread.

The other day before I logged off I saw a few sprouts asking to be removed a few times. The first answer that I saw was along the lines of "No. Suffer"; probably in jest but seriously the poor sprouts.

I like that sprouts can approach me in the open world, it's happened more than once, but I hate the cesspool that the NN seems to turn into and groan each time I get automatically shoved into it when there is an available spot.

In addition to more controls for sprouts, mentors should also be able to decided if they want to join the NN channel and not be forced into it.

I'd prefer if the mentor channel was just an environment where newbies would want to be... but that won't happen.

Even if it's where they want to be, it should never be where they are unwillfully required to be. That's what I believe regarding that, at least.

You ungrateful sprouts! You listen carefully: Being invited into the novice network, well it's an honor! It's proof that the wise and beneficent mentors, beloved of the Gods and masters of all Eorzea have seen something in you, eh? By their decree you have been selected to rise above the rabble and kneel at their feet for instruction.

And yet, what is this?! You who have been chosen by the network, dare complain? A pox! A pox on all your doings! Much spittle and specks of food between your teeth! You're not worthy! But you'll stay and you'll listen, damn it! I command you! The mentors command you! Your rebellion ends here! YOUR REBELLION ENDS HERE!!

THE MENTOR NETWORK IS FINE! THE MENTOR NETWORK NEEDS NO PATCHES! PAX NOVICIA! PAX NOVICIA!

It's not just sprouts, but also mentors that should be able to opt out of the mentor channel, maybe by turning their crown off. Maybe then those of us who actually want to help will get a chance to.

I also think a crown was a bad choice for a mentor symbol. A tree or flower or something that represents that sprout now fully grown would have been ideal. The crown just makes people take it for the ego boost.
