I think you should stick with FFXIV, make some friends, and run endgame content when you're able to do so. At lvl 56 you only have a little way to go before you can start gearing up and getting ready for endgame, and if you haven't finished the Main Scenario Quests you need to get on that. The story is great, the content is fun, and even though there is a lot of grinding involved, which requires running the same dungeons over and over, it can be a fun experience each time and it can feel really good when you finally have enough tomes and are able to get a fresh new piece of gear.

This game has content added more frequently than any other MMORPG, as far as I am aware, so there's always going to be new content to keep you entertained. Stick with it, level other jobs, and try to have fun. If you give it another shot, reach level 60, finish the Main Scenario and still don't feel like FFXIV is right for you then you'll have at least applied the right amount of effort to really know if this is the game for you!
