Of course, I just felt it was worth highlighting the distinction. I was bored out of my mind until 3.2 launched but I'm enjoying the game a lot more since we got some quality content that's actually enjoyable to play.
I think its safe to say the vast majority of players were bored out of their minds before 3.2. Or at least You, myself and the majority of the forum at the very least.

It wasn't the most entertaining period that this games had thats for sure.

I think you should stick with FFXIV, make some friends, and run endgame content when you're able to do so. At lvl 56 you only have a little way to go before you can start gearing up and getting ready for endgame, and if you haven't finished the Main Scenario Quests you need to get on that. The story is great, the content is fun, and even though there is a lot of grinding involved, which requires running the same dungeons over and over, it can be a fun experience each time and it can feel really good when you finally have enough tomes and are able to get a fresh new piece of gear.

This game has content added more frequently than any other MMORPG, as far as I am aware, so there's always going to be new content to keep you entertained. Stick with it, level other jobs, and try to have fun. If you give it another shot, reach level 60, finish the Main Scenario and still don't feel like FFXIV is right for you then you'll have at least applied the right amount of effort to really know if this is the game for you!

I played Blade and Soul, and had fun leveling and quickly tossed it aside upon reaching max level.

In my opinion, PvE in the game is horrible, uncoordinated and a gong show. PvP felt like the focus, but despite this, the balance was horrible. So I'd give the leveling experience a 8/10, PvE at max a 3/10 and PvP a 4/10. I mean, kinda random, but the gist is there.

I mean Blade and Soul is a F2P game so you wouldn't waste money in trying it out.

Overall I thought BnS was fun, until you hit max level.

Then its literally just dailies and waiting to get enough gold/whatever else you need to upgrade your stuff.

I'd suggest playing it but dont expect it to be amazing unless you like PvP.

Currently playing Blade and Soul in favor of this ATM, but I won't deny that endgame is dull as hell right now. On the other hand, combat and comboing are super fast-paced, fairly skill intensive, and rely on quick reflexes in some aspects (a good PC/ping in others...ugh). Going back to XIV's 2+ second GCD just feels positively glacial in comparison.

If you're interested in something more pvp-focused and casual, BNS is great. Log in, do dailies, thrash some peeps in arena, log out. If you're looking for a game to sink endless hours into and foster a friendly, helpful community...avoid it like the plague. There's a real lack of side content that hasn't been remedied in the games' native Korean origin, and the NA community is just frothingly angry all the time.
