I think Keen Flurry is one of those "wth" things that survived the 1.x>2.0 purge. One of those abilities that SOUNDS like it'd be good on a tank(or at least DRK, cause of parry abilities) but parry is basically treated as "that POS stat" even by tanks...
As a Dragoon myself, I approve XD
Circa 1.23 it did something entirely different; it removed the cooldown from the next weaponskill you used, which was a pretty big deal when our combo finishers had long cooldowns.
Haha, very true! I don't even use Keen Flurry unless a boss is trying to swallow my face...so for me, whilst everyone's buffin'/stancin' up I'm just goin' "...Oh, hey there...nice shoes...they're shiny. I have a lance. I like to poke things with it..."
Ah, to be a simple DRG...I don't mind at all. ; D
Keen Flurry helped my ass in T13.
and i'm a bard..
Keen Flurry is actually a good defensive raid cool-down for DPS. As UltimateAoe2 said, it was amazing in T13 for Earthshakers for every job that could use it (and even more-so for DRG). Any time you take unavoidable physical attacks you can use it to help your healers out.
I'm sure there's places in Midas Savage it could be useful for (charges in A5S, and double drills in A6S come to mind as physical AoEs DPS can take). Sephirot EX also has places you could pop it if you're low (stomps, earthshakers, towers if a tank dies).
Another plus...its not Foresight...
Used it quite often in Thordy. The room wide aoe after p1 - that's physical(saved my arse more than once), the tethers - those are physical - remember to turn towards them though. With it and a lucky crit second wind I could come out with like only 1k damage at times.
(super serious)I don't know what to put here so I've put this here as a placeholder until I figure it out.(super serious)
Recruitment code if you are starting out: FTB8JBQ5
DPS really should take advantage of their defensive cooldowns more. People say what OP says all the time and it's true that dps's main goal is of course to do damage. It doesn't hurt if they try to stay alive tho! Rarely do i see bards and monks pop second wind in random groups.... same with drg and keen flurry. They aren't as good defensive cooldowns as tanks get but they still do something.
That mention of the earth shakers (i assume) on T13 is a perfect example. DPS getting pummeled by unavoidable damage, pop keep flurry, wham, 20% less damage (usually). Doing the healing thing is a healers duty but, it doesn't hurt to help em a bit!
Dead dps do zero dps (I checked). But iono, not directed at anyone, just a general rant. /salute I'm equally guilty as anyone of forgetting to pop them.
But wouldn't foresight be more useful than keen flurry for drg? D:
