This just shows how bad the situation is. In my decade of playing MMO's I cannot think of a time that servers were shut down due to a natural disaster.

People have complained about FFXI severs being in Japan only for YEARS. Can we look at getting some servers somewhere else now?

This is what happens during a mandated energy conservation. Multiple millions are without power and they cannot generate enough now. Higher ups at SE are trying to find a solution but looks like they are being forced atm.

To be honest, this could be very good for FFXIV. I always felt like they should have just reset the servers once they made the necessary over-haul. So maybe this will give them some time to get things running smoothly without players online complaining about everything? I don't think they'd keep them down too long, or at least they'd be on par with FFXI's server downtime. (Unless, it makes it too similar to FFXI-2. Har-har).

What worries me is that they are taking down FFXI as well. You know it's bad if they're taking down their successful -(and subscribed)- MMO severs too.

Game speculations aside, I really do hope everyone at Square Enix is doing alright. My best wishes go to those who were affected by the tsunami.
