Now for Samurai. That seems rather...predictable

As a Tank: Let says Shogun was implemented. The crossclasses would need to be GLA for Provoke and MRD for "default".

As a Melee DPS: Samurai would still wind up needing Blood for Blood, Invigorate and Internal Release, so they would wind up with PUG and LNC

However it's possible that the class will have its own more thematic variants. allowing other crossclass branches. Like say ARC for Raging Strikes or ROG for Perfect Dodge. but probably unlikely bar mixing u the effects (Like say a skill that increases crit chance and damage recived)

have you seen Flash or Unleash? casting is not a problem for tanks if they don't want it to be.

If 4.0 or in the future SE actually introduces something that would enhance or give more variety to jobs without it being hotbar bloat like skill trees then Red Mage would be the gateway to this concept.

Red Mage could be made a DPS, a healer, or a support/both.

Otherwise I don't see it happening anytime soon, or they'll likely butcher the job.

Also the Spellblade/sword magic gimmick is for Mystic Knight so if people actually want that instead of a legitemate Red Mage, (that can do black and white magic with melee combat capabilities) then they should just make Mystic Knight instead.

I don't want Mystic Knight though. I want a mage who fires ranged element spells from his sword blade beam style. Add En-Thunder to cause a "Chain Lightning' AoE, add En-Fire to make the beam explode, En-Earth could cause a defensive spell.

If all you're thinking is how Mystic Knight added element dammage to their Melee attacks then one, you're thinking too small, and two, element dammage is compleatly irrelevant in this game anyway.

These could just be stand-alone spells instead of being sword enchantments. It's not like a Black Mage needs to enchant their weapon with a fire element to cast fire.

Mystic Knights can still be made even if the element wheel is already irrelevant. Enchanting their swords with spells gives additional effects or definite chances of it succeeding.
They can give elemental debuffs depending on what element was used instead of their usual pinpointing the enemy elemental weakness. (which doesn't even exist) They can also do things like reducing the defenses or damage of the enemy, so pretty much a debuffer job.

In a way, they could be a good partner for BLM and a WHM which are two jobs with element-aspected attacks. This is just my idea about how it could be though.

    Also:

    RDM (CNJ/THM)
    SAM (LNC/ARC)
    BLU (CNJ/ACN)
I've had my suspicions about RDM = Mystic Knight or Ronin = Samurai, but Yoshi-p already stated no more base classes in an interview.

I'm also curious about that BLU combo. I was thinking their cross class skills would be replaced with enemie skills instead.

I think my preference for Class for RDM at least, were it to have one would be Spell Fencer>RDM or something of the sort.

I think it might be a crime if red mage didn't get "bio" :P

So Arcanist for sure. And did RDM get Aero in FFXI? I can't remember now, but it seems to me they had it. So conjurer too?

My bets are arc/cnj for rdm as a DPS! I'm hoping they use fencing style attacks and enspell type buffs on their rapier/foil type of sword. Maybe some kind of combo system to allow use of spells? So, sword slash x3, spell, sword slash x3, spell? Iono... It's fun to think how it would work in ffxiv since it's a whole other game and ffxi was the only example of it in a MMO setting that we already had... Obviously they aren't going to just copy it since they are totally different games but. I'm thinking they will get some sort of stacks from their fencing attacks that will power their spells... Is my guess anywho...
