Ah, yeah I'm on ps4. Thanks for the explanation.A lot of good advice here. As a WHM, you'll be doing the bulk of the raid healing and some dps when there are a lot of mobs grouped together. Just be sure not to switch to full dps without telling your healing partner and you should be fine in most content. If you join a static for raid, the group will probably bring it up to you first, or you can ask them. It is one of those questions that get answered fairly early on in a raid recruitment interview, kind of like a job description.
Also, for a raise macro: it depends on whether you're using a mouse&keyboard or a controller.
/micon shows the icon so you know if the ability is on cd
/ac is shorthand for /action
/p is shorthand for party chat

I use a Rez macro on PS4 because ever since DF Titan Ex I thought saying "it's ok, <t>, it was probably lag!" every time I Rez someone was hilarious. But honestly Rez macros are less reliable than just hitting swiftcast and raise. For example, if you use the macro
/ac swiftcast <me>
/ac raise <t>
Then it'll try to use both skills at the same time, and you'll have to spam press it to ensure the raise goes off. I'm not online atm but I think mine is more like
/micon raise
/ac swiftcast <me>
/wait 1
/ac raise <t>
/p It's ok, <t>, it was probably lag! <se.1> <se.2>
In order to use this one you have to target the person, activate the macro and wait for your target to receive the raise buff before switching targets. Swapping targets before the macro has completed will try to use the raise on the wrong target and this is a very common problem among inexperienced healers. It can be challenging to be patient when your tank is taking damage, for example. The macro is great as a gimmick, but honestly it slows me down and doesn't save space on my crossbar because swiftcast is a vital skill to have access to, it's not just for raises.
Btw /micon (macro icon) allows you to make the icon on your crossbar a skill icon of your choosing so you can see the CD time. Anything after /p is to leave a message in party and <se.#> is sound effects. If a skill has more than one word in its name, it'll always have to be in quotations. For example, ac raise <t> Is ok, but /ac shroud of saints <me> would not work, it would have to be /ac "shroud of saints" <me>. Or when in doubt, always use quotations around the skill name.

As a WHM and AST, I generally just look to see what the party composition is and then watch for the other person's play style, the latter mostly if we happen to be the same type of healer. In my experience, it takes longer and is generally harder to ask the other healer what their playstyle is and try to compliment it. If it's someone you don't know, you also have no way of knowing how reliable they are. For this reason, I keep Resurrect and Benediction on macros.
So as to not disrespect the other healer while still keeping the party alive, my general rule of thumb for healing in 8-man+ content is:
>As AST, if I see a SCH, I go into Diurnal Sect and will assume that I will be doing most of the healing. But I will still attack in Cleric Stance; I just won't rely on the SCH to heal because they can output good DPS.
>As AST, if I see a WHM, I go into Nocturnal Sect and will assume that I'll be doing most of the attacking since they are known for their healing output and are on-par with or better than AST in Diurnal Sect. If I see that the WHM prefers to attack, then I'll scale my own back and keep a closer eye on party member's health.
>As AST, if paired with another AST, I just switch to whichever sect they aren't in and go with that. If they aren't in a sect, I switch to whichever one I feel most comfortable with in that content.
>As WHM, if paired with a SCH, I almost exclusively heal unless I feel comfortable doing otherwise.
>As WHM, if paired with an AST, I mostly heal since the AST will (and should) be shielding using Nocturnal Sect.
>As WHM, if paired with another WHM...I played it by ear and watch the other person's playstyle. If they constantly switch into Cleric Stance, then I will not, and vice versa.
I don't have a high-level SCH, so I can't comment on that one.
WinterMaintenance is coming

Playing WHM, is I'm paired with AST and see them going Noct I tell them they don't have to pick Noct out of courtesy, they can pick whichever they want. Some stay in Noct, some are glad they can take Diurnal. Something about attack speed or such.
If you say 'pls' because it's shorter than 'please', I say 'no' because it's shorter than 'yes'.
