and I'm not understanding what's so hard about finding a wootz set and glamouring it. Whiners gonna whine.I'm not understanding all this hate to the OP. He never said take out the new gear, he only said to give more options to those who prefer armor looks. I think this is a completely fair request. I like the cool new clothes but some more armor sets like the tank wootz gear (replicated from ffxi) would be a very welcome addition to the game
I believe they mean more armour based on what's in FFXI. Take a look at a lot of the Mage gear in that game, for example. No matter what race or gender you were, it always looked good and natural on your character. Especially the Job Specific gear.
This is a confusing topic.
It's simply impossible for Square-Enix to make every set of gear appeal to every player. Even if they have different versions for different genders, some people think bare-chested armour is feminine, other think it's the height of masculinity, and still others don't care either way but like/dislike the look based on their own personal aesthetic reasons (I expect most people are in the latter category, actually). You want 'beefcake' tank armour, fine, but my wife only likes 'sexy' tank armour and one of you is going to have to glamour each new piece of gear no matter how they design it. People have explained that there were tons of 'proper' armour options from 1-50 and it's only since then that the ostentatious skirts and straps have been incorporated into the majority of designs, so isn't that the ideal situation? It means there are lots of options with both aesthetics to choose from.
Add the fact that everyone has a completely different idea of what the word 'masculine' even means, and you have a situation with no possible resolution. There's no precedent for 'flamboyance' to be a fixed gendered concept in humans. In the animal world, many species have the males looking flamboyant while the females look plain. In the European history which provides much of the inspiration for the fantasy setting, especially in Ishgard, many cultures used to have the males dressing glamorously. In modern times, there are many countries which celebrate men dressing flamboyantly. Just because it's 2016 and the current trend in your country is for girls to wear attractive clothes while boys dress in plainer attire means nothing to the global audience of the games with tastes which cover the entire spectrum of fashion.
I completely understand the frustration of buying gear you think is ugly as it's less rewarding than the dual benefit of increasing your stats and your stylishness at the same time, but everyone has different taste. I don't like that all of my jobs have the same model for their lore gear either, especially when it's yet another white dress for three of them - but I do like the Company Tabard and the High Allagan Coat of Casting, so I'm going to change my look with this gear cycle.
Glamour prisms exist to solve this exact problem in a painless and reversible way, which is why everyone keeps suggesting it. When we currently have situations like five entire jobs sharing the exact same lore gear model and even gender-locked novelty hats to save the designers (what must be) minimal time and effort, I'd rather they didn't spend their precious resources on designing multiple different tank lore options. It will lead to even more re-use of gear models across different sets in future when they try to recoup the costs, and it's unnecessary when glamour prisms were implemented to give the players control. I'm flabbergasted to hear they're selling for 50k each on your server and can only assume your economy there has substantial inflation which makes them more affordable there; on mine they're usually under 2k and I can make any of them myself for a pittance if I don't like the price.
There's a separate problem here too which is 'there are no gear sets in the game at all that I like', and if that's the case then I think it's a good idea to suggest ideas in a way which doesn't close off options for others when there's a gap. Personally, I have nothing against robes, but I'd like to see more robes or coats cut in a way which don't clip through my feet when I run and my mount when I ride; thank goodness for tabards and tunics. Glamour is mandatory for me anyway as all of the recent WHM gear (even the PVP gear...) comes with full-length gloves which interact strangely with robes from other armour sets, so unless I buy all of my lore set in one go it's going to look unsightly without glamour.
(Separately, I completely agree that more gear inspired by FFXI and FFT designs would be great. A few intricate FFXI-style tunics would help avoid my chocobo robe-clipping nightmares.)

If the situation was reversed and everything new from now on will all be tin cans, there will be a new thread here with more flamboyant gear requests. Will you reply the same like this?
Is it so wrong to ask for more diversity in future gear design?
Or are the rest of the people who don't share your fashion chance doomed to always wear the same old glamour?
We want new tin cans too you know![]()
Thank you. This is what I'm saying. It's funny how everyone just says... "Deal with it, lolwhiner" , like, really? That's where we are at?I'm not understanding all this hate to the OP. Don't take them too much seriously. They are probably complaining in their own threads about things like parsers, or people who cheat their way to farm parties, which other people find like whining as well :3
The saltiness spreads quite easily.
I quite liked the bare chest on the ifrit piece.. gave it some flare! I'll trade you drg set for tank set..
I'm honestly suggesting that they think about hiring a real production artist team that can produce some options. Without getting deep into comparison, games like WoW had multitudes of classes and races with both male and female options that were always great. They also had option to transmogify (glamour) which provided even greater multitudes of options. While you weren't able to change colorsets, it did breathe life into options.
The major difference is the gearchange was not controlled by player market, and it was NPC controlled. Cost was always the same. There could be days / weeks where some prisms cost astronomical amounts and not sold in singles (at 50k+ gil per level/rank for only 2-5) which to me is excessive.
I love my Wootz armour (great Paladin look, originally full penta melded). Too bad that that SE can't design something else half decent that looks like it was designed to do the job of the one wearing it.
Gotta have a reason for all the annoying glamour prisms that drop in dungeons instead of real loot these days.
