Mormorion - what's going on?

I'm at the level of GSM where I want to make some items that contain mormorion. It appears to be the only 3.x (non airship) GSM recipe that requires Aqueous Whetstones to craft, none of the gems before or after do. Is there a reason why this level 54 recipes is gated in this way? I know aqueous whetstones are available with Company Seals but that's not the point; the point is that all other gems don't require a purchased whetstone. Celestine isn't really comparable as it's an airship drop & almost "token like", every craft job has one.

This was brought up back in July but the thread died instantly as it was a very busy time.

That's the reason I hate making Noble Gold for red scrip because of those mormorion. IMO it's not worth if you compared with Noble's Codex ingredients.

Well, GSM really isn't being picked on with that, at least. There are other recipes out there that recipe such GC items. You can also buy the stones from the Ixiel (sp?) rep vendor, I think with the tokens you get doing the higher level dailies.

That's the reason I hate making Noble Gold for red scrip because of those mormorion. IMO it's not worth if you compared with Noble's Codex ingredients.

MTE. And also the fact that you get more with Codex's than Golds. It's like, not only do they give you less, you have to waste precious seals on them. xD (What? I go through seals like water. Damn cordials.)

I purchase my Aqueous Whetstones from the Grand Company, 200 seals a pop, IIRC. At least it gives me something spend GCs on other than Cordial and Ventures.

Yeah, but why is it the only one that needs it, other than the 50**/*** ARR tokens? It makes it very difficult if you're using leves that require multiple turn ins. It seems like an oversight.

That is like asking why do Adamandite Nuggets need Darksteel ore, while Amphiptere Leather only need Dark chestnut logs which are much easier to come by.
Both items have the same item level but one requires two unspoiled node items, while the other requires easily obtained items.
The primary reason, as I see it, is SE wants to keep these outdated ARR materials useful in HW.

It could just be plain bad design. *Cough* Draconian pots yielding 1 *cough*

I chalk it up to the horrible design of recipes in HW. For no good reason a lower recipe will require unspoiled nodes and hidden gathers, while a much higher recipe will only need items from a run-of-the-mill node. It makes no sense.

No it's not. Both can be gathered by either the relevant DoL class or by a retainer. You have to *buy* aqueous whetstones, they're not available anywhere else than a shop or a very rare & unreliable dungeon drop.
