I knew this would be about French players.

You know why we all expect French players to be bad?

It's not because the French are worse at the game in general. It's because the ones that ARE bad at the game are the ones that don't speak English, since they are likely kids or too stupid to learn another language. And those are the people sticking out and causing endless wipes, which causes the stigma.

So yeah, people with only F in the language setting can be expected to be bad a lot of the time.

Now when it comes to duties i agree with the french bashing mentality because i've seen how the majority of french players are. They don't try to understand english, insult whoever tells them to try and some are just very bad.

They have no excuses though. English is the international language,you have to comprehend it.

I totally disagree with that. Speaking english is only mandatory for ppl that have to do with international business work or that will move to a country where english is the native language. And those ppl are quite the minority. The vast majority won't have the opportunity to face english language except for very little occasions during their entire life.

That doesn't make them stupid or lazy at all. Stop with the "english is the universal language" thing. It's clearly not, it's not even the most spoken one.

Nobody have to know english. It's an option.

Everyone can (and I quite encourage them to) learn other languages and cultures. You're french you can learn spanish, russian or chinese (and all these languages are spoken as a native language by more ppl that english, it would make learning them at least as useful as learning english). This works for english native speaker too, they can learn foreign languages, that wouldn't hurt them (in fact that would open their mind a lot as you can't really learn a language without learning associated cultures).


FF14 allows ppl to tag one or more language. Those who only tag D or F aren't less legit and aren't more stupid that those that tag only E. They're all on the exact same line. If you had to value ppl over others, you could state that ppl that can speak several language might have had a better education than others, but that's really all


ps: Don't take me wrong, I can speak (at last I can write and read) english quite fluently. I like eng and american culture. Stating that english is only a language among others doesn't make you the ennemy of all eng speaking ppl. (I foresee some upset E ppl to flame on my post tho)

That's completely different. English is the international language - pretty much every country in the western world teaches English at schools from a very early age, the internet is primarily in English, most popular movies and TV shows are in English, and so on. People from English-speaking countries have far less incentive to learn a different language.

Also, on European servers, the majority of "E only" people actually have English as their second language, not their first(with their first language being Spanish, Italian, Russian, Norwegian, Arabic, etc etc). Which means they're already in the "not stupid" category. Only Great Britain has English as the primary language after all.

Most Balmungians speak English so I never had this problem.

And I think most French Canadians and European people can speak English as well. Maybe they can't communicate because they're on the PS4.

I don't know how it is in france, because they really love their language (it's even protected by law), but english is a main subject in german schools.
But it is a difference between using english just in school and using english to communicate outside of school. But german players should at least know basic english good enough.

I can assure you that every country have its own tv shows (lol if you really think european just think about watching american tv show, most doesn't know who oprah is dude), movies are dumbed so you can watch them without knowing a single word of english, and so on.
This is real that most schools around the world teach english. They also teach deutsch, spanish, italian, etc. For a F kid, english is only another school subject, and not a very important one. Maths are important. French (yeah in france, weird no?) is important. Sciences are. English... is clearly beyond, amongst other languages, art, and sports. Smart kid are good in maths, not english. They can be, but from a school point of view, it's secondary.

The truth is, ppl speak their native language the most and value it, then if they have interest to, they can learn and value other languages but 1/ they don't have to, 2/ it can be any one. Were I come from , Sweden we are actually more or less forced to learn English simply due to it being the language most people can speak in the world and any type of job that requires you to interact with people more or less requires you to have the ability to communicate in English and I know we aren't the only ones. What you are talking about only works for major languages like spanish, french and german.
