    Returning player can't re-equip gear?

    Hello all,

I played for while when ARR first relaunched and got a SMN to 50 before my old PC died and I stopped playing for a while.

I just started playing again, and switched over to a DOL class for a while to gather some crafting mats, but when I tried to reequip the gear I was using when I re-subbed (lvl 50 evoker set), the game is telling me that my class can not equip this gear, even though I was wearing this when I ceased playing last year and played in this gear yesterday just fine.

Have I forgotten something during my absence or has there been some kind of gear change where SMN can no longer equip the evoker set? Any help is certainly appreciated here.

    edit:
Never mind, I'm just dumb. Forgot to equip the SMN soul crystal for anyone wondering

Glad you managed to figure it out.
You should save your equipment as a gearset. Same as your DoL gear. This way you can just click your gearset icons when you swap between your Summoner and your gathering class, and everything changes over easy peasy!
Whenever you get a new piece of gear, just click the little refresh icon on your character screen to update the current gearset.

And when you are looking at your gear set list, you can drag an item to a hot bar. So, if you don't mind another button and / or hotbar, then you can have your most common (or all!) gear sets readily available instead of going back to the gear set menu.

Well, the OP did mention that it was when her old PC died that she stopped before. If not backed up, all previous gearsets (as well as hotbars, macros, and everything else that's stored locally on the client) would have been lost when re-installing on a new machine and need to be re-created from scratch, so it's not really surprising if she didn't have them all set up again yet.

Wait. Is it true that gear sets are stored on the local computer? I assume that means the gear though is still in their armory, yes?

To correct it - your active gear set is stored server side - but all other gearsets are client side.

All other inventory/armoury chest is server side.

The gear itself (as well as all other items) is stored on SE's servers. Returning to the game on a new machine, it will know what gear your character is wearing, what's in your armory chest, and what's in your inventory.

The part that's stored locally (and lost when switching machines) is the memory of which of those pieces you equip together as "Gear Set 1" or "Gear Set 2" and so on. Saving that set information for the convenience of switching out all your gear at once is separate from whether you have the items or not.
