No I haven't transmuted any. I tend to stockpile my Materia in my retainer. Lol. I threw away the elemental ones, but now I will have a reason to save them now that I know this.

Why does Elemental Resistance Materia exist again since that resistance actually means all of nothing? Honest question.

Back in the day, when Titan Hard mode was still...hard. there was a poster who melded an ungodly amount of Earth materia on thier accessories, apparently it did significantly reduce the earth based damage Titan could dish out. So, actually it does still mean something, it's just very minor and you need an ungodly amount to makeva difference. I'm sure we can all think of better melds...

Funny you say that, because back when Ifrit was a brick wall for me as WHM, I used my Fantasia just to change my Guardian to Azeyma as well as sold as much of my items and gear as possible to so I can crafted gear and put Fire Resists melds on it. Not sure if it was a mental thing or if it actually worked, but one wipe later, I had no more issues with Ifrit.

To this day, I still have Azeyma as my Guardian.

Now that we can meld raid gear, it would be nice to give elemental resistances a little more oomph.
But as it is, Mutamix won't give you back any type of materia you give him, so it helps fill the spaces up to get something nice.

Maybe the elemental materia could also give a secondary effect, like also boosting resistance to debuffs associated with that element. Example; fire materia gives fire elemental resistance and makes you more resistant to the Burn status.

Use the disposable materia for the weekly challenge of melding 5 materia if you're still grinding crafting. Or just RNG with the goblin for something good or useful.

If anything they should have looked for a way to incorporate Elemental stats into crafting instead. Make some of those abilities more useful and conserve crystals.

I had someone buy a 220 jewel from me and go to her retainer a few days ago. "EWWW my retainers suck. <Earth Materia V>
I suggested she take it to mutamix with 4 IV materia. "I don't have the money to buy those." I give her some. Bam that Earth 5 became a Craftsmanship V and made her over 3 million gil.

Sadly, that's the exception rather than the rule. Most times you'll get a tier 3 materia at best. If you're lucky you'll get a tier 4. Trying to get a tier 5 materia through Mutamix is like trying to spear a fish with a toothpick while suffering from caffeine jitters.
