Bring life back to old locations

Through the progression of 2.0 Yoshi expressed that he wanted old locations to be revisited by veteran players, and his solution was the atma grind. It did it's job, but it was a begrudging response. Why not add things to 2.0 city states to draw in people who've left them behind.

Ul'dah has a colosseum. Introduce a 1v1 PVP or 1v1 PVE duel challenge with bets and exclusive prizes. Bet untradeable gear for example winning player gets both pieces. Or bet untradeable gear to the NPC challenger and get rare items from them as a reward.

Limsa is a seafarer nation. Introduce a cruise that allows you to fight rare deep sea monsters or catch rare fish for rare gathering or drops. Similar to Diadem, but shorter.

Gridania has an inaccessible location, the old amphitheater. Reopen it and make it a world fare. Crafters and gatherers could trade rare items and crafted gear to world traders for exclusive crafting gear and items.

    Any suggestions?

The old (1.0) Mhi Khetto's Amphitheater in Gridania was completely destroyed in the Calamity and rebuilt in it's current location so there is no reason to make use of it's old site (lore wise it would have been given back to the forest anyway). 1x1 PvE/PvP I can see being added to the Colosseum though as it's indeed woefully underused.

I disagree though with your comment that the citystates are ghost towns - on Balmung at least all three are usually full of players and are very lively. Besides, as the old saying goes, 'you can lead a chocobo to water, but you cannot make him drink!' - adding content that forces players to come back to an old location just to do something new may just turn them off doing said content. If they don't want to go back there, they won't. It's a problem with no easy solution I'm afraid.

Gridania and all other city-states on Excalibur are more lively than Jeuno was just with one server when I played FFXI. More people in the city-states than what we had in FFXI in just one.

Yeah the city-states on Hyperion may not be as bustling as they were in 2.0, but they aren't ghost towns! (not counting Edda or decorations during All Saints Wake)

None of the city states in Zalera are ghost town they are actually pretty lively, except for the very odd hours or super late.

Whether they are really ghost towns or not, I definitely get what the OP is saying. I almost never go back to any of the main towns except to turn in stuff for seals to my GC or do a holiday quest. I made an alt the other day and realized I no longer knew my way around Gridania at all. While I don't necessarily like to be herded like a sheep back into certain zones, I am always for more content... Something based out of the three original towns would not be a bad idea at all. The coliseum idea sounds great and I would kill for the cruise to fish (maybe slightly increase big fish chance PLS SE YER KILLING ME), but even if it was just something to do with each of the GC's, that'd be nice too. I feel like other than PvP and buying mats there's nothing to do with your GC, so something like that would be nice...

Move the MB and retainers bells near the main aetherytes like in Limsa and trick would be done. That's the main reason for not going to Uldah or Gridania for me. The second one for trying to avoid cities at all costs is that I cannot stand the lalafells dances, the emotes, the spam (Both RMT, and individual sellings) anymore . When they fix that, people may return.

It should be time that Milvaneth Sacrarium , the 2nd temple of Nald'thal, reopen again in Ul'dah.
it is in maintenance since the calamity.

The distance from aetheryte to the market is in Gridania mostly the same as in Limsa. Just a run around a corner.

Despite how weak/poor I think their execution tends to be, I can't deny that the FFXIV team tends to be a collective of good ideas. It honestly would not surprise me if the intent that Yoshi-P had of revisiting barely had anything to do with things like Atma or the like, but rather long term ideas that are in limbo due to time and figuring out the "how".

The devs like to take a lot of ideas/concepts/design from XI, so it really wouldn't be unheard of to see things of similar features be made here one day. The boat cruises, for example, that XI was rather memorable/tedious for is likely going to see some rendition of it be made in the unforeseeable future. Likewise, an eventual universal reason to be okay with old dungeons as a max level will most likely get added in some day (i.e. Merits/Job Points).

The old locations really aren't that dead, at least city states wise. A lot of us stay there for our own reasons, but we also go to places we want to choose to be in. Many of us with personal houses or an FC with a house, tend to use those locations the most to idle in. Similarly, many people like to use the most recent of endgame related spots (like current Idyllshire or Revenant's previously). We choose where we want to familiarize ourselves with for our own reasons. The popular locations, like the ones I mentioned, will always be the most used because of its meaning to us, if not for convenience alone.

Having said that though, more content in general is rarely a bad thing. The things you suggest are certainly welcome, but I don't think they'll do what you think they will without further changes or better server capacity (in the case of the Colosseum). I'm guessing the Ul'dah one, you weren't really thinking instance for that. It'd be a problem given potential lag issues with heavy combat in an already robust zone of NPCs and players (be it after or before such content), unless it were only allowing such matches one at a time... which can also be its own problem lol. If you were referring to instanced things, then it really wouldn't liven up those zones. Maybe the Crafters/Gatherers idea, but those tend to not work out as well as devs might intend. This being due to (in)conveniences in other ways (crafters endgame being in other zones, social chat options, etc).
