    Future job speculation

So I've been looking into some of the jobs/classes from previous FF games that are still not included in FFXIV. So far the Samurai and Red Mage classes are the ones that appear quite often and are still not implemented, followed by the Blue Mage. That again, the Scholar appeared twice (FF III and FF XI unless I missed him somewhere else) and yet is still in the game since before Heavensward. Any thoughts?

Also - WHY the hell has the Necromancer not appeared since FFVI Advance?!

Holy Knight was from FF Tactics, right? And isn't that basically a Paladin? I haven't played a Gladiator up to lvl 30 yet, so I'm not sure how they're different lorewise xP

I would be much more excited with completely new jobs:

    - a tank with two shields and guns on them?
    - dps wielding a great hammer with blunt damage?
    - an heavy lancer with greatshield , based on counter attacks, as tank?
    - etc

I dont see why this game should be bound with older FF game's jobs such as the usual "give us FFXI red mage and samurai". It s boring. These are different games from different eras with different gameplays.

They should try to create something new. Im glad they decided they create machinist and astro instead of the infamous blue/red mages. These are actually new jobs with fresh design.

Think they used more sword magic. PLD share a couple abilities I think. Just want a dps variant more focused on that. I wouldn't mind seeing more current versions of classes, too. Lightning from XIII is just a flashier red mage.

While you do make a fair point, I'd have to disagree on a couple of them.
First of all - a 2-shield class with guns sounds kind of silly x)
Second - the Machinist isn't all that new and fresh - it feels like a cross between an Engineer, a Cannoneer, a Gunner and a Puppetmaster.
Third - do not underestimate the value of nostalgia ^^ Freya from FFIX and Cain from FFIV were really iconic chacters that made me love and enjoy the Dragoon class. And the Samurai would also fit into the lore. Plus being a iaido practitioner myelf I adore katanas. And the Blue Mage was one of the most interesting classes as you had to explore to find skills you could learn from monsters.

I would, however, also enjoy new classes. Hammer-wielding DPS/tank? Yes! A heavy armored lancer with a tower shield (so... hoplite I guess?)? Yes! I'd play those, just as I'd play someone who dual-wields swords or small axes (Blademaster and Viking/Berserker kind of stuff).

First i would also like to see a tank job based on Rhythatyn from Cape Westwind. He just looks like a real tough brickwall tank. <3
The hammer thing sounds also great. Could be tank or DPS maybe like WAR.^^
The hoplit style with focus on counter attacks sounds good but feels bad, could be the worst OT ever.^^

Dual-wielding classes/jobs are bothering me a little bit. I dislike the dual-wielded knives from Ninja, which are a perfect fit to Rouge, it's to blunt casual design in my opinion. There are so much different kind of ninja weapons out there, but they wont fit to Rouge and are no classic weapons for FF or a RPG, sadly.

For my turn, i want to see a real Bard job, not a crippled Ranger-Bard-mixup. It could be a supporting healer like AST, with songs like ballad or hymn for partywide effects and rhymes and rhythms for specific buffs/debuffs and some sound or sonic magic based attacks.
Bard would also need a redesign of the Archer and his new Job the Ranger. While Archer can mostly stay like he is, the Ranger will be designed like the actual Bard without songs, a WM-like ability at level 30 and a couple of stances for different kind of arrowheads for different damage types and special buffs to different other abilities or class/job mechanics.

I would also like to see a cannoneer, not like a guy with a hug gun under his arm, more like a artilleryman summoning his own placement and man it before he can use nearly all of his skills. It would be immobile and immoveable while manning his cannon. Its primary weapon skills represents different kind of ammunition which are buffing themself mutually.

A job based on light/heavy cavalry with a focus on charges to/through the target. Unsheathing summons his battle mount and sheathing will unsummon the battle mount and nearly all skills are tied to be mounted on the battle mount.

yeah, i'm a fan of locking abilities behind special conditions and complicated design.^^

Holy Knights really weren't anything like our Paladins. They used magic attacks through their blades that each had a secondary effect such as Silence, Confusion, Stop, Doom, and even one attack that had a small chance to just outright kill a target with one shot. One particular character also had the ability to destroy various equipment on targets.

Except for the last one this sounds similar to the Mystic Knight class/job correct? Maybe another name for it?

Yeah I see what you mean. I'd love the ninja to have a ninjato f.e. Or a pair of sai. "Problem" with FFXIV is that changing the weapon changes the class, so unless they change that bit of the System it's 1 weapon per class/job :P

I know, right?! A pure Bard could be so awesome to play, like that one "class" from Monster Hunter that somewhat acts like FFXIV's ninjutsu mechanic to make songs from notes.
