Just wanted to start a discussion about the current situation where jobs that can attack from range (blm and brd) are seemingly better versus mobs that have aoe attacks than melee classes.

Personally I believe it is indeed viable (there have been videos of this) to use melee jobs that aren't warrior versus mobs such as Ifrit. However, it's undeniable that stacking blm and brd is simply easier due to those jobs not being in as much danger as melee classes and not requiring as much of the whm's MP.

I do content mostly via pickup parties and so it becomes painfully obvious that melee jobs (other than war for tanking) are just not wanted which is why I leveled BLM, I felt I had to to tackle content. Most people will say that it's the community's fault for only accepting range-stack strategies, however if it's the safest most efficient method you can't exactly blame people for doing this.

Essentially I want to know if people are fine with things the way they are where BLM and BRD are the 'go to' DD jobs for content due to the safety that range provides, and melee jobs are for if you're in a linkshell willing to utilise your mnk or drg. If people feel there is a problem with this though it'd be nice to hear ideas for how to 'fix' this situation.

Also another point to consider I suppose is certain jobs are *needed* because of their aoe capabilities (CC). Anyways discuss...
