I hope the devs are listening. We need the devs to please listen.
+1 I wish my FC had this, instead they have to use the tiny announcement on the company board
Why Lodestone events do not work:
- Requires sign-in each time on an external website not frequently checked by most
- Not PS3/PS4 friendly
- Requires players to leave the game or tab out to a site infrequently used
- No in-game reminders or integration into XIV
- Difficult to set up recurring events for the FC
Why Google Calendar doesn't work:
- External site which becomes a daily responsibility of the player
- No in-game reminders
- Can't regulate who enters/leaves the FC
- If made public, spammers/idiots throw countless notifications of BS on to people's phones
- Not PS3/PS4 Friendly
Why Facebook/Hangouts/Player.me/Discord postings don't work:
- Can't manage or continue to add every person who joins the FC
- No clear way of knowing who is posting what event
- External site requiring daily checking on the responsibility of the player
- Convoluted system not friendly to recurring events, requires as much work from the poster as the viewer
- No in-game reminders
The lodestone also doesn't work because it actually doesn't work. I created a halloween event and, even signed in, I could not find my own event doing an event search. Having an FC calendar would be a great boon for FC's, but I'd suggest taking it a step further and having a server calendar. It would be cool if I could actually advertise events at my guild's restaurant/resort in a place that people actually check. Why Lodestone events do not work:

The XIV dev team should look to Eve Online for some inspiration.
- Messages and calendar events are synced and can be used between game and community portal. A fleet commander sit on the airport, send a fleet announcement for the next day, set up a calendar note and log on the next day with pilots ready.
- The messaging system resembles an email client. Think old-school Outlook. You can send private messages, corp-wide messages, mailing lists, it's basically in-game email.
- Chat channels can be made at a whim, are in separate windows and you can see players present. Multiple channels can be grouped into a single window with tabs.
Yes, Eve is a completely different beast, but the way they handle player communication is still much more user friendly.
My greatest frustration and aggravation over this game is how ineffective it is for FCs to remain united, and a calendar is at the heart of it all. FCs have a revolving door of players moving in and out trying to find static groups and even casual events they can participate in. We need this badly.
