I completely agree with you. Jumping and swimming are standard features today and they definitely should have been in this game. I mean an mmo is all about exploring this massive world and players don't need these artificial constraints in their way.

Since FFXI didn't have these features I would have thought that they would have been brought up some time during the brainstorming process for FFXIV. Why they were never brought up, or why they were turned down, and why we don't have servers that can support these features is anyone's guess.

Now if FFXIV was planned to be a more action based game and we were able to sprint for short periods of time, dodge and roll out of the way of enemy attacks but we couldn't jump...I could understand that. You could see that they were trying something different and that the kind of jumping we usually think of might not have fit in their vision. But since they have made a pretty generic grinding mmo it doesn't really make sense that they are missing these features.
