I think such mechanics would be fun in a different kind of game. But for FFXIV it would seem out of place. Even the R46 cutscene looked stupid and out of place to me.

I agree, but I think it's mostly due to the fact that we're so used to seeing our characters glued to the ground. Trying rolling the picture around in your head for a few moments - it took me several before I could really imagine it without it seeming weird.
