There are usually several decent tactics but people are just too lazy to discover additional party setups once they find one that works.

lol Those folks are confused, for most situations as long as you have a tank and a healer (and the tank is even option most of the time) the other members don't matter much.
This will always, /always/ be the case, until people actually voluntarily play healplz at the right frequency that people don't get stuck shouting for some healplz. =P
7UP!

Actually there is a good reason Lancer is the preferred DD for Ifrit, and it's not because they do the best damage. Lancer is the only job that can engage Ifrit with auto-attack that has the range to stay far enough back to not be constantly hit by his plumes that he spits out at anyone within range of his body after he rages.
It's not an issue of player preference, it's just what people have to do because the mp cost on cures makes in nearly impossible to heal a tank and the other DDs without running out of mp in about 5 minutes or so.

Even then, Marauders and Pugilists (and anyone else really for that matter) can heal themselves. Bloodbath + Victimize or Maim grants a good deal of health. Second Wind is decent for 250 TP. Even Cure/Sacrifice works for close-range DD classes. I mean the mages aren't the only ones who can heal, the least people can do is try to take care of themselves where possible.Actually there is a good reason Lancer is the preferred DD for Ifrit, and it's not because they do the best damage. That's probably because those parties, you know, need that type of job or something.
Didn't the world first (JP Gyshal) have a pretty varied setup? I think this is a bogus thread, no one is asking for "only this class" or "only that class". Even pick ups have realized by now that focus by DD/Healers and not only a particular class is necessary.
Now "Sentinel {Do you have it?}" I could see.

Those people shouting for "this specific class for Ifrit", that will die out. People did Darkhold with arc because its easy, you can still fight the ogre and such with close up melee it just takes thought. Ifrit fight can be done with a lot of classes, we just ask for the easiest ones. I can't wait till next patch to see what they rip out of conj. If they give all nukes to thm and give conj some more useful HOTs or something, maybe we'll need less CNJ. Doubtful though. SE won't balance the mages particularly its ones more useful than the other. In this game the mage that heals is more useful that the mage that does damage. At least they beefed up lnc and mrd and such, so that they can enjoy the content also.
And I agree with murugan, Sentinel is prob one of the only things I can justify them asking for. But if you don't have Sentinel, and you're going to go to do an event with your main linkshell, don't ask one of your socials to PL your shield please, just do it yourself. Or don't do the Ifrit fight today man, sorry!

10/14/11 - FFXIV community civil war erupts. "I'm paying and the game is gonna be awesome." VS. "I'm leaving and the game is gonna die." Let the battles begin!
