They clearly are egi, right down to the animation and sound effect when they are defeated. If you're referring to the adds they spawn, those are far removed from how the egis are designed. Egis are all balls of colorful aether - they don't really resemble the boss or anything the boss summons at all. Garuda looks like a little green bird - ain't no boobs on her. c:
Basically, those adds wouldn't help in the slightest in the design and modeling of the egi for either.
While they're at it maybe they should make smn's lb change based on what egi is out, like if Garuda is out we can use Garuda's signature attack or if we have ifrit out hell fire and terra flare can be the default lb
I posted something similar some months ago, sad that "egi glamour" is not a reality yet.
Summoner should be able to summon every (egi) primal we have defeated, the lore excuses for leaving us stuck with Ifrit/Titan/Garuda are both sad, trollish and lazy at this point, SMN feels like a badly merged form of two different job designs (dot and egi+ trance mode).
Having the same role/abilities we have now but with different egi skins would be a huge step forward, game balance wouldn't change and at least the job would fill better its fantasy.
Something like:
Caster Pet: Emerald Carby - Garuda Egi - King Moogle Mog Egi -Ramuh Egi - Enkidu Egi- Phoenix Egi- Bahamuth Egi - Warring Triad#3
Tank Pet: Topaz Carby - Titan Egi - Shiva Egi- Bismarck Egi - Alexander Egi - Sephirot Egi
Melee Pet: Ruby Carby - Ifrit Egi - Odin Egi -Leviathan Egi - Ravana Egi - Thordan Egi - Warring Triad#2
Game balance would not change but the entire concet of "SMN" would feel much better, it would also spark somekind of "Gotta catch 'em all" mentality with SMNs encouraged to defeat optional primals to obtain new summons.
Another nice touch would be making the egi to revert to its original (mini) primal form for 1-2 seconds when using Enkindle for its signature attack, making it a nice callback to oldschool "one-hit-move" summon magic.
However, my hopes for any of this aren't too high at the moment, sadly.
Yeah I want more pets too.
