The Praetorium is so messed up place.

Btw I'm new. I try nice say

I played a monk for the first time in The Praetorium from quest.
I almost lost because the players very quickly run like I'm slow .... End l got lucky.

But the next time. I level Machinist, time "Duty Roulette: Main Scenario"
They did the same ... But I forgot how this place. I got longer lost without them.

I said "Wait me" and "Where you guys"
They said me "use shortcuts and quiet your whining" How rude....

I tried shortcuts, no help. Later... I got back with them in Ultima Weapon.

Now I feel The Praetorium is dangerous for new players.
If they don't know where go and lost.

    It is a strange balance.

They put in the roulette to get people do do the dungeons in order to help get new people through them.

However that also encourages running it quickly as possible for those doing it every day.

So either wait forever for a queue, or get unfortunately crapped on for not being perfect by DF people.

Sorry dude, it's a known issue, but one that's hard to figure out how to fix.

The main problem with the Praetorium (assuming I am thinking of the right place) isn't even being crapped on for not being perfect. The DPS checks are blown away regardless.

It's that people who speed run it (IE everyone) will dodge pulls and rush to portals. New players might not know they need a card from one room to use a magitech armor in another. It is very easy to just get left behind if you lose sight of someone for even a second.

Add to that the fact that there are many cutscenes in the Praetorium. Awesome ones. And you will very likely not get to watch them until you retire to an inn later. Anyone watching a cutscene will miss half of the dungeon.

Actually, it took me all of three seconds to come up with a permanent fix for prae: make it solo-queue content, one time only. You don't even have to change any of the dialogue - the NPCs already only speak to/acknowledge your character. It would probably take Square a week of minimal effort to recode it for that kind of a clear.

If there is a new player watching cutscenes or say they are new I will stay with them to guide so they don't get lost if everyone runs ahead. The group will be short a healer or tank as that is what I play in these.

I hate when people speed run these when there is a new player trying to experience it for the time. I have been kicked for refusing to stay with the group and stay with the new player to help them.

I don't know what the solution to these are, they added them to the roulette so new players can get through them with out a long wait but then the veterans speed through them for the bonus and don't care about the new players. It is a no win situation.

Ago I said "Hello. I'm first time here" They don't care about it and still running- :/ I died in alone from mods attack as they skipped.

But, next time I can remove cutscenes. Still I can't faster well....

The thing is so stupid easy at this point that being short a healer or tank won't matter... people can faceroll the entire thing regardless. I'm wondering if they might be kicking you because they think you're afk though? I've seen a few people that still try that afk stuff hoping for others to do all the work for them. If someone insisted on staying behind to guide a newbie I wouldn't kick them, but realistically the rest of the group probably wouldn't wait because at least half the people barrel on ahead anyway.

One solution would be to split the dungeon up to prevent playing from running ahead. One of the new dungeons does this (I forget which.) They could make it so those portals won't appear until everything is killed. It's a shame for new players who basically have to skip the cut scenes and stay glued to the group or be left behind. Unfortunately, the sheer amount of cut scenes makes it hard to blame people in some cases. While I still think they could suck it up for twenty minutes, it's not an ideal situation for anyone.

Come 4.0 though, I really think the devs need to revisit a solution. A new expansion will likely bring a plethora of new players, and being rushed through the final chapter of the main story isn't going to exactly warm them to the experience.

I think the best way to experience castrum/prae is to have a patient level 60 friend unsync it with you. My friend and I turned on cutscenes and duoed it awhile back.. It was quite enjoyable. It's fun to experience it with the cutscenes, but this way, we weren't having to pull in others to wait with us. We were mobbing the entire floors (no skipping) for fun, so it should be possible to solo without too much trouble.

We ran them as a FC team for one of our new members synced to minimum item level. One of my best dungeon experiences in this game so far.
