And what about those of us that are trying to be tanks and not tryhard dps?

You'll still want to meld STR on Fending Accessories and Crit and Det where applicable because of the way hate works in this game. Deal more damage = generating more hate = easier time tanking. Parry is unreliable at best and you'll get greater mileage out of pumping stats into your offensive secondaries.
STR will have a bigger impact on your DPS, enmity and HP absorption from skills.
I fail to see how this makes you a tryhard, especially since it doesn't require any more effort than "getting melds for tanks" (btw parry is still a mostly useless and unwanted stat).

The STR from a V materia increases damage mitigation more than the Parry from a V materia. STR provides increased lifesteal for WAR and DRK, which, while barely noticable, is still more mitigation than the minuscule amount that Parry provides. For PLDs, the STR doesn't give as much lifesteal (since they only have CC bloodbath for that), but does increase the strength of Clemency if you ever use it (which does healing based on your STR, not VIT). Plus, for PLDs, Parry provides significantly less mitigation than the other classes since you can't both Block and Parry the same hit.
This is ignoring the fact that STR also provides increased enmity generation (very important) and DPS (less important). Parry on the other hand has no other effects besides the super tiny bits of damage mitigation it provides.

Self heals are a tanking tool, based off your offensive stats, and will be incredibly more useful to your total survivability (or being a real tank according to you) then the pathetic effect parry has.
That's ignoring the benefits of helping your overall raid DPS, and letting you hold threat better in order to allow more use of not threat abilities.
I'm sorry, the fact that to be a better tank in this game you have to stack more DPS increasing stats is just irksome to me and makes me cranky when I'm tired. After seeing some hard numbers on what the parry values are, I'm just disheartened. Please disregard my jerky attitude =\
Need to work on learning about materia melding and all that jazz now.
Hey man, if Parry didn't suck so bad a lot more people would be with you.I'm sorry, the fact that to be a better tank in this game you have to stack more DPS increasing stats is just irksome to me and makes me cranky when I'm tired. SE takes all this time to make VIT more appealing as a tank and STR a lot less appealing, and does jack for the one tanking secondary that is practically worthless to everyone. Go figure, eh?

I find the exact reverse happening. reset day = MANY people getting gear from midas/lore and buying up the market. VA trade-ins go fast but generally for more since everyone is shopping. By the weekend, the people who are going for the V's on the MB are done for the week, and most of the weekend crowd will flood market from there VA's and are more likely to put a IV rather than a V unless they get there own VAlways meld STR on fending accesories whitout questions, IV for ones that gets replaced fast othervise V's. If you got the gil then go for V's even for those that gets replaced because diffirence between IV and V is huge, wait for reset day as peoples will flood V's due VA item so you will get them cheaper compared to weekends for example.
On Lich nobody apparently gets STR V from VA and it stays at a steady 500k. :'(
