They are great because a) character development b) getting you to play the game and try other classes/jobs (so you learn more about what others might play, what a crazy thing, huh?!) c) rewards for effort d) class/job identity
I don't see how my MCH having raging strikes and HE makes it any more different/unique from a BRD (job parallels aside). It takes away from skill pools that the job could have had. Instead of raging strikes, MCH could have gotten another form of damage buff for their turret, or not have an eqvuilant of raging strikes, have their potencies tuned accordingly, or get a different ability to level it out.
